Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven has recorded the fastest speed in the Premier League this season, but new data has thrown up some surprises in the early part of the campaign.
Van de Ven has established his reputation as one of Premier League’s fastest stars since joining Tottenham from Wolfsburg at the start of last season.
After topping the fastest speed rankings in the 2023-24 campaign, the Dutch defender is again top of the pile seven matches into the new season.
Van de Ven has already shown his pace by setting up counter attacking goal with solo runs against Everton and Man United.
In new data released by the BBC and Opta, the 23-year-old has been clocked as the fastest player in the top flight by reaching a top speed of 23mph.

Haaland is the fourth fastest player this season and has also walked the most distance
Kyle Walker is surprisingly ranked 80th for the fastest speed in the Premier League this season
The Tottenham star is closely followed by Wolves winger Carlos Forbs and Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga, who have achieved 22.7mph and 22.3mph.
Man City’s goal machine Erling Haaland is ranked fourth on 22.2mph, clocking the same speed as another Tottenham player in Timo Werner.
Haaland, who has scored 10 goals in seven matches this season, was also found to have walked the most in the top flight having covered 17.5 miles.
His team-mate Kyle Walker has regularly been at the top of the Premier League’s fastest player rankings throughout his career.
The Man City captain has recorded the competition’s second fastest ever speed of 23.1mph – only beaten by Van de Ven clocking 23.2mph last season.
However, the 34-year-old only ranks 80th in the top flight after seven matches of the new season.
Gabriel Martinelli and Alejandro Garnacho lead the way for Arsenal and Man United respectively, having been clocked at 22.1mph and 22mph respectively.
