Ten Hag quietens noise

Ayew: 'An unbelievable feeling'
It's just unbelievable, that's why we play football. We didn't have a good first half. Second half we got ourselves back together and attacked the game properly. It's just an unbelievable feeling.
It's a good step forward to move up the table. We're going to continue fighting and it's not going to be easy so well done the lads and everyone.

'United deserved that'
You know what, United deserved that, just about, in the end. Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund really kicked on in the second half and it should have been a bigger margin between the sides come the final whistle here.
How badly did Erik ten Hag need that having been under the microscope this entire international break? Onto Istanbul as the grind doesn't stop...

'Hojlund magnificent'
Standing ovation for Rasmus Hojlund as United's fans show their appreciation with Joshua Zirkzee coming on in his place. Started slowly but he grew into the game and has been magnificent in this second half. His goal was a thing of beauty, too. How United badly need to keep the Dane fit (seemingly their only reliable goal threat!)

'Top stuff'
It’s been a very quiet game up until this point by Marcus Rashford but Erik ten Hag persists with him for moments of quality such as that ball just a moment ago to Alejandro Garnacho. That is top, top, top stuff.
United just need to see that on a more consistent basis and they wouldn’t be in the mess they are. Good noise in here now after Garnacho’s equaliser.

'Frank super intense'
Watching Thomas Frank is fascinating. This is, whether he wants it to be or not, an audition having emerged as one of the leading contenders should Ineos elect to sack Erik ten Hag. He’s super intense even with his side on top.
He’s just had a long conversation with midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard about something he didn’t like. Just now he slapped his hands together in frustration at a misplaced pass. Stark contrast to the typically stoic Erik ten Hag we see here week in, week out.

'Ten Hag on brink'
Welcome to Old Trafford, where we are stuck in a grindingly familiar cycle. Erik ten Hag keeps talking a good game, a better game than his players play, and yet still he teeters on the brink of the sack. Fail to beat a good Brentford team today and he will edge even closer to the precipice.

'A family affair at Old Trafford'
Jack Fletcher and Ethan Wheatley having a knockabout in the warm-up slightly away from the main group. It’s a testament to United’s academy staff, from head of academy Nick Cox down, that there is a pathway to keep putting these U21s into the first team mix.
Feels tricky to get youngsters involved at the minute with United’s performances rarely comfortable enough to chuck them in. But never say never.
Both start on the bench today. Jack’s brother Tyler is watching this one from the directors’ box with his mum while dad Darren is part of the coaching set-up here. A family affair.

Frank: 'Ten Hag gets too much criticism'
It's incredible how much scrutiny he's had to face. As a head coach, I acknowledge how it feels to be in a situation like this. I think [the criticism] is too much.
He's clearly a good coach, he's won two trophies in two seasons. But I understand how it is: if the team wins, the head coach is absolutely fantastic; if the team loses, the head coach is absolutely s***! Whereas it's probably somewhere in between.

'Ipswich will have their hands full against Dominic Calvert-Lewin'
Jacob Greaves has been one of Ipswich’s stand-out players this season but he isn’t in Kieran McKenna’s squad this afternoon. Luke Woolfenden and Cameron Burgess were the centre back pairing who helped Ipswich up into the top flight but have had to bide their time this season. They get their opportunity this afternoon and will have their hands full up against Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Everton’s lack of squad depth is there for all to see too. Two goalkeepers on the bench and no Jarrad Branthwaite in the squad. They look a completely different team defensively when he is at the back and it’s a shame we’ve been robbed of the chance to see him tussle with Ipswich striker Liam Delap.
Ali Al-Hamadi is the cover star on today’s programme. The Ipswich striker has connections to Merseyside - he grew up there after his family fled Iraq when he was still a baby.

'I fancy Hojlund to score today'
I arrived here (very) early this morning to catch Erik ten Hag given players and management here love to arrive well in advance to relax in the players’ lounge. Ten Hag was in high spirits and waved to the gaggle of fans who pitched up. It’s a reshuffle at the back from the defence we saw start the draw at Villa with Harry Maguire out injured and Noussair Mazraoui only fit enough for the bench after he underwent a heart procedure having complained of palpitations. Lisandro Martinez could have his hands full if Bryan Mbuemo decides to drift out to that side and make him do plenty of running.
Further up, Rasmus Hojlund leads the line and I fancy him to score today. First start of the season at Old Trafford for the Dane and he just had that pep in his step when he arrived. Let’s see. It’s, yet again, another massive game for Ten Hag to ease the pressure on his position.

Ten Hag: 'Noise only coming from media'
Noise is only coming from some of you in the media, creating stories and fairy tales, and bringing lies.
Journalists didn’t believe me. I saw the reports. Of course, we are unhappy with the position where we are.
Ultimately, internally it is quiet and composed. We stick to the plan and are very convinced it will be a success.
