Brentford's official social media joked their side are 'getting slow' after taking the lead against Wolves in 77 seconds following a streak of first-minute goals.

Returning captain Mikkel Damsgaard returned to the starting lineup on Saturday and had an immediate impact as his cross found Nathan Collins who headed home from close range.

As kick-off approached at the Gtech Community Stadium, a chorus of, 'We're gonna score in a minute' began ringing out around the ground.

For most teams this would amount to little more than bluster on the part of the supporters but Brentford's reputation for firing on all cylinders from the opening whistle is becoming increasingly justified.

In a post on X, the club jokingly bemoaned not taking the lead earlier in the game.

It read: 'WE'RE GETTING SLOW. 1 minute and 16 seconds in and we lead! Nathan Collins with a thumping header from close range.'

The opener meant Brentford have taken the lead in their last four Premier League games within two minutes of kick-off.

Yoane Wissa put the Bees ahead in just 22 seconds against Manchester City last month before Bryan Mbeumo gave his side the lead in 23 seconds against Spurs the following week.

Mbeumo was again on hand to fire Brentford into the lead last Saturday, netting in 37 seconds as they were held to a draw against West Ham.

Speaking following their draw with the Hammers, Frank offered an insight as to how his side are so effective from kick-off.

'Of course there is planning that goes into it,' Frank said. 'We have a kick-off strategy and we tweak it from game to game. And as a mindset and philosophy, we like to get straight on the front foot and be positive.

'There are some margins going our way of course, but I want to give credit to the coaching staff and the players.'

Despite undoubtedly setting records in the process, Brentford failed to maintain their lead in all three of those games.

History looked to repeat itself against Wolves, as Matheus Cunha levelled the scoreline at 1-1 just minutes later.

Mbeumo restored the hosts lead from the penalty spot on 20 minutes but Gary O'Neil's side again responded with an equaliser from Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Despite twice being pegged back, the Bees maintained their momentum in the first half, and goals from Norgaard and Ethan Pinnock saw them enter the interval with a comfortable lead.

Fabio Carvalho added a fifth for the Bees in the closing stages before Rayan Ait-Nouri netted a consolation in stoppage time.
