If Jarrod Bowen felt hard done by after his omission from this week's England squad, then this was the perfect response.
The West Ham captain led by example with a goal and two assists in what was a much needed first home win in the league for head coach Julen Lopetegui.
'When you don't go away with England, the best way to show your disappointment as a player is this,' Lopetegui said of his skipper.
'He knows that. He is always ready to help the team to work hard, to play well and that's why he's a very good player.'
Dark clouds had started to gather around the London Stadium after three straight defeats here. Talk of a row between Lopetegui and Mohammed Kudus, who had been hooked at half-time in last weekend's draw with Brentford, had only added to the pressure starting to build on the Spaniard.

But, like Bowen, Kudus responded in the right way, with the forward scoring the second of four West Ham goals.
Ipswich had got themselves level when Liam Delap netted his third in two games following Michail Antonio's opener, which came after just 47 seconds.
But Kieran McKenna's side were off the pace here and deservedly beaten, with Lucas Paqueta netting the fourth after Kudus and Bowen's strikes.
'We conceded some poor goals at poor times,' McKenna admitted. 'They didn't have to work too hard. The goals came too easily from things that were too simple for them.'
West Ham had gone behind in five of their six previous games and Lopetegui had called on his team to produce a better start here. He got the response he asked for as Antonio opened the scoring inside the first minute.
Kalvin Phillips did not have many happy days during his loan spell with the Hammers last season and this was another outing to forget. His poor clearance went straight to Tomas Soucek, who fed Bowen down the right. His cross then went through the legs of Phillips and Antonio was there to send a first-time finish past Arijanet Muric. It was West Ham’s fastest ever goal at the London Stadium, but their lead lasted just five minutes.
An Ipswich corner dropped to Delap at the back-post and the forward shrugged off a challenge from Paqueta to fire a low shot past Alphonse Areola.
After Jacob Greaves went close for Ipswich with a glancing header, the visitors needed a goal-line clearance from Dara O’Shea to prevent Soucek from putting West Ham ahead again.
But the hosts did manage a second before half-time. Emerson drove down the left and crossed for Antonio, whose header came off the crossbar. Kudus was the first to react as he leapt above Leif Davis to nod the ball past Muric.
Forward Mohammed Kudus' headed goal put the Hammers 2-1 up just before half time
Hammers captain Jarrod Bowen put daylight between the teams with a 49th minute strike
Lucas Paqueta 69th minute goal sealed an impressive win for West Ham on Saturday afternoon
The hosts started the second half as they had finished the first, with Bowen extending their lead just four minutes after the break. Muric was slow to come for a ball over the top and could only send a clearance as far as the West Ham captain, who cut inside Phillips with ease before firing a low shot into the bottom left corner.
Bowen continued to cause problems down the right and his driving run and cross created the fourth goal, with an unmarked Paqueta tapping in at the back-post.
