Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana has dismissed suggestions that he faked a phone call to avoid the club's fans.

In a video posted online, Fofana was seen answering his phone and getting on the team coach after Chelsea's 6-2 win away to Wolves despite fans waiting for the Blues players to emerge.

Malo Gusto was seen interacting with supporters, but Fofana was criticised by some supporters online for his actions.

However, the 23-year-old has now clarified the situation and stated that he received a phone call and put his bag on the team coach before re-emerging and taking pictures with fans. 

Fofana wrote on X: 'Hahaha people are crazy I got a call and then I went to put my bag in the bus after that I go take pictures with the fans'.

Fofana has been at Chelsea since 2022, when he joined from Leicester City.

However, the Frenchman has been restricted to only 22 appearances for the Blues so far after enduring much misfortune with injuries.

Fofana has played a key part for Chelsea in the opening stages of the season

Fofana didn't play at all last season due to a cruciate ligament tear but he has been involved in the early stages of this campaign under new manager Enzo Maresca.

The 23-year-old started for Chelsea against both Manchester City and Wolves.
