Chelsea thump Wolves

Right, I won't quite French exit but I have to dash.

Anfield calls...

It was one hell of an afternoon for Chelsea in the West Midlands and Noni Madueke specifically.

Enzo Maresca seems to have unlocked their attacking capabilities and that is a scary prospect for the rest of the league.

Please follow me over to the coverage of Liverpool's clash with Brentford, it will be another cracker I hope.

15:24

Maresca makes history

Enzo Maresca will be a very happy man right now.

The Spaniard has just made history with that result, is the first manager in Premier League history to see his team score six goals in his first away game in the competition.

It was one hell of a match. If he gets his Blues playing like that every week we are in for an entertaining season.

15:18

Madueke's new home?

I am going to keep rinsing this line, Noni Madueke has to surely now adore Wolverhampton, right?

He has now scored more Premier League goals in Wolverhampton than he has at Stamford Bridge.

Madueke has only netted two league goals in west London...

'Colwill was crucial'

Kieran Gill, Mail Sport, at Molineux:

Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke and Joao Felix will get the plaudits (and rightly so) but worth mentioning Levi Colwill too. Was 1-1 in 42nd minute when he stopped a certain goal from Matheus Cunha which wouldā€™ve given Wolves the lead. Crucial.

Marvellous Madueke

What a rollercoaster of a weekend for Noni Madueke.

Yesterday he made the mistake of calling Wolverhampton a 's***' place on his main Instagram.

He is then booed every single time he touches the ball in the first half, but then in the second he nets a hat-trick.

If you had told him that's how his weekend would have gone last week, I'd bet he would have laughed.

In all seriousness, Madueke was superb from the very first minute today.

Not only did he score three, but he terrorised the Wolves backline from the first whistle, he was really up for it.

An incredible afternoon for the winger.

FULL-TIME: Wolves 2-6 Chelsea

Wolves' misery is over as Draenn England blows the full-time whistle.

Chelsea turned on the afterburners in the second half and the hosts simply had no answer.

After slating Wolverhampton last night, Noni Madueke will certainly love it now as he comes away with the match ball.

It was also a memorable day for Joao Felix who netted his first goal since returning to the Blues.

A stunning performance from Enzo Maresca's side.

Wolves 2-6 Chelsea

Molineux is practically empty right now.

The fans have given up and all you can hear are the Chelsea fans on the far side, they are loving life.

The game is over, everyone is just waiting for the whistle.

14:59

FULL-TIME: Bournemouth 1-1 Newcastle

Heartbreak for Bournemouth.

For a minute they thought they were taking home all three points thanks to a late winner.

But those hopes were dashed by VAR and they will just have to settle for the one.

Newcastle were far from their best today, but Anthony Gordon's strike spared their blushes.

EIGHT added minutes

There will be eight minutes more of this match for Wolves to endure.

Gary O'Neil decides to give Tommy Doyle those minutes for a run out, it's a very tough game to come into for the lad.

14:54, 94'

VAR: NO GOAL!

Oh wait, Newcastle are given a late lifeline.

VAR rules the goal out for handball on Dango Outtara, and it's so unlucky.

The ball rolls up off his arm before he heads it home, but I guess those are the rules.

14:53, 87'

Wolves 2-6 Chelsea

Oh my word, I thought there was another goal for a second.

Kiernan Desbury-hall gives the ball away and for a second Jorgen Strand Larsen looks like he is in.

But the chance goes begging as the forward drags his strike wide.

14:51, 92'

Goal:Bournemouth 2-1 Newcastle (Outtara 90+2')

Dango Outtara wins it at the death for Bournemouth!

The Cherries forward sends the Vitality Stadium berserk as he heads home with one of the last kicks of the game.

He rises highest from a corner, unmarked, and simply nods it past Nick Pope.

That should be that.

Wolves 2-6 Chelsea

Phoar, I am lost for words at this point.

This is one of the most mental matches I have ever covered in my life.

I am still not certain whether the goals are going to stop...

14:46, 80'

Goal:Wolves 2-6 Chelsea (Felix 80')

And just like that Chelsea have another!

Joao Felix marks his second debut with a goal and what a stunning counter-attacking move it is.

The Blues make the posts pay and fly forward after VAR rules out their third.

The ball is slid across to Felix to slam home in style.

I can't keep up.

14:46

VAR: NO GOAL!

VAR doesn't take too long to disallow that one.

Toti was offside in the build-up and the cheers are cut short. Molineux is even more deflated now.

This second half just hasn't gone Wolves' way.

14:44, 78'

Goal:Wolves 3-5 Chelsea (Lemina 78')

Now they are cheering again!

Mario Lemina lashes home a superb finish to pull a goal back for Wolves, or has he?

Toti is in a blatant offside position, this will surely be chalked out...

Wolves 2-5 Chelsea

Molineux is like a completely different place now, it's completely deflated.

Jose Sa plays a ball out of play and there is a collective groan from the home crowd.

I bet they can't believe what they have witnessed.

14:42, 76'

SUBSTITUTION: Wolves 2-5 Chelsea

This match has lost all its flow now, players are dropping left, right, and centre.

Mainly Moises Caicedo, who seems not to have recovered from that brutal challenge by Yerson Mosquera.

He can't continue and is replaced by Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

14:37, 69'

YELLOW CARD: Wolves 2-5 Chelsea (Mosquera and Cucurella)

Tempers continue to flare at Molineux.

Cole Palmer first of all shows his skills before seeing a shot blocked and then all hell breaks loose.

Yerson Mosquera makes a late lunge on Moises Caicedo and it is not pretty. Marc Cucurella certainly doesn't like it.

everyone reacts and suddenly there is another brawl...

Both Mosquera and Cucurella go into the book.

14:35

Goal:Bournemouth 1-1 Newcastle (Gordon 77')

Anthony Gordon to the rescue for Newcastle!

Godron levels it up for the Goerdies by latching on to Harvey Barnes' low cross at the back to turn home.

It's against the run of play, but it's a massive goal for the visitors.

SUBSTITUTIONS: Wolves 2-5 Chelsea

Both sides have decided to make changes.

Wolves make three with Rodrigo Gomes, Craig Dawson, and Pablo Sarabia all entering the fray.

Meanwhile, Joao Felix comes on to make his debut to replace goalscorer Nicolas Jackson.

14:32

'Suspect Madueke doesn't hate Wolverhampton now'

Kieran Gill, Mail Sport, at Molineux:

Suspect Noni Madueke doesn't think Wolverhampton is such a rubbish place now. Hat-trick, and all three of his goals assisted by Cole Palmer.
14:29, 63'

Goal:Wolves 2-5 Chelsea (Madueke 63')

It's a hat-trick for Noni Madueke!

The scriptwriters have really had fun with this game, haven't they?

After all the build-up, Madueke has netted three goals in Wolverhampton and the third is another fine finish.

Once again Cole Palmer slides him in, for the third time, and he rifles low into the net.

What an afternoon for the young winger.

14:29, 61'

SUBSTITUTION: Wolves 2-4 Chelsea

Gary O'Neil is deciding to roll the dice.

Daniel Podence enters the action to replace Hwang Hee-Chan.

Can he make an impact?

14:27

SO CLOSE! Bournemouth 1-0 Newcastle

Oh, so close to a debut goal for Evanilson.

He slides onto a brilliant cross from Antoine Semenyo and you just think he is going to score.

But he pokes the ball inches wide of the goal from close range.

14:24, 58'

Goal:Wolves 2-4 Chelsea (Madueke 58')

Noni Madueke has another!

The winger must surely love Wolverhampton now as he drives home Chelsea's fourth and his second of the day.

The Blues fly forward and Cole Palmer slides Madueke in on the right and he arrows it into the bottom corner.

Is that job done for the away side?

14:23, 56'

Wolves 2-3 Chelsea

Ooooo, Rayan Ait-Nouri is a lucky man...

The full-back is already booked and brings down Wesley Fofana with a late push.

You can see the worry on his face but somehow he gets away without a second yellow card.

He won't be on for much longer, surely?

14:20, 54'

Wolves 2-3 Chelsea

There is a break in play as Nicolas Jackson is down holding his ankle, but it looks like he is going to be OK.

It seems we will have a lot of stoppage time in this half too, then. My early guess is five minutes.

14:18, 51'

Wolves 2-3 Chelsea

I was about to joke about that we had a slow start to the second half before Noni Madueke scored.

This match has just been relentless and I couldn't guess how many more goals there will be.

14:14, 49'

Goal:Wolves 2-3 Chelsea (Madueke 49')

It just had to be him, didn't it?

The goals continue to fly in and it's public enemy number one who puts Chelsea back in front, Noni Madueke.

Chelsea work the ball over to him on the right and he bends the ball into the far corner via a deflection.

Advantage to the Blues once again.

SECOND HALF: Wolves 2-2 Chelsea

Pedro Neto is back on the Molineux turf.

He places Mykhailo Mudryk at the break and returns to the ground he played at for five years.

When his name is announced over the speakers there are a mix of cheers and boos from the home supports. Mainly cheers.

Anyway, we are back underway.

14:09

WATCH: Tavernier scored for the Cherries

Newcastle fans, you might want to avoid this post.

If you haven't yet seen how Bournemouth took the lead against Newcastle, here is your chance to watch it.

Joelinton made a real mess of it, didn't he?

He's disposed and in a flash, Newcastle are behind. That phase of play summed up their first half.

14:07

Speedy Blues

Chelsea got off to a lightning start, didn't they?

In fact, Nicolas Jackson's opener after 98 seconds is Chelsea's earliest Premier League goal since September 2017 against Stoke City.

It set this match off on an incredible path and I will forever be thankful for it.

A superb header.

SECOND HALF: Bournemouth 1-0 Newcastle

The ball is rolling again on the South Coast?

Can Newcastle find their groove or will Bournemouth pull away?

We will know in 45 minutes.

14:04

Breathless

Has anybody got their breath back yet?

Chelsea and Wolves have just delivered the best 45 minutes of the season by a mile.

I felt like I was typing non-stop, so much was going on. It's been a fantastic game of football.

Part of that is down to the lack of defending, but also due to the fieriness of the encounter.

Incredible viewing.

14:00

'Caicedo and Fernandez need to be better'

Kieran Gill, Mail Sport, at Molineux:

Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez need to do so much better as midfield pairing. Wolves have been cutting through them ridiculously easily, while Matheus Cunha has had the freedom of Molineux. Plus, Chelseaā€™s defending has been calamitous, with Wolves men left all on their own.
13:56

HALF-TIME: Wolves 2-2 Chelsea

The breathless half at Molineux comes to an end.

I have just witnessed one of the best halves of football I have seen in a very long time.

It took just two minutes for the drama to start and it carried on all the way into stoppage time.

Four goals, two fights, multiple cards and even a disallowed strike. It's had it all.

there is nothing to separate the sides as it stands.

Goal:Wolves 2-2 Chelsea (Strand Larsen 50+1')

Wolves are level again!

The crazy nature of this game continues as Jorgen Strand Larsen nets his first goal for Wolves.

I simply can't believe what I am watching.

Wolves 1-2 Chelsea

I don't want this half to finish, it has been box office football - the best of the season so far.

Both sides are going at each other's throats in a relentless attempt to get the win.

Who knows how this one will end!

13:49

HALF-TIME: Bournemouth 1-0 Newcastle

Bournemouth lead at the break.

It's not exactly been a brilliant game, especially compared to what's going on in the West Midlands./

But the Cherries will be happy as Marcus Tavernier has them in front after the first half.

Newcastle have been poor, they haven't had a shot since the 12th minute.

Just as Cole Palmer celebrates giving Chelsea the lead, the board goes up to show six minutes of stoppage time.

My guess was one minute off.

13:46, 45'

Goal:Wolves 1-2 Chelsea (Palmer 45')

WHAT A FINISH FROM COLE PALMER!

Chelsea re-take the lead against the run of play and it's an exquisite display of how to counter-attack.

Robert Sanchez quickly sets the Blues on their way before Nicolas Jakcosn feeds Palmer.

First time Palmer lobs Jose Sa from outside the area and just like that the Blues are back in front.

Incredible football.

YELLOW CARD: Wolves 1-1 Chelsea (Palmer)

This match is just non-stop action, it's incredible.

Now Cole Plamer is in the book for complaining at Darren England, who doesn't take a fancy to what he said.

Thereeyellows in just a few minutes.

13:44, 42'

OFF THE BAR! Wolves 1-1 Chelsea

What a goal that would have been!

Wolves cut open Chelsea like a knife through butter and it nearly ends with a second goal for Matheus Cunha.

Mario Lemina dances through and slides the ball over to Matt Doherty, who pulls it back for Cunha.

Cunha takes his chance first time and it looks like it's destined for the net, but Levi Colwill deflects it onto the bar.

A stunning move that deserved a goal.

13:42, 40'

YELLOW CARD: Wolves 1-1 Chelsea (Gusto)

Darren England is not shy of using his cards anymore.

Malo Gusto is next in the book and Wolves now have a threatening free-kick on the edge of the area.

But Matheus Cunha's effort is comfortable for Robert Sanchez to hold onto.

13:37, 37'

Goal:Bournemouth 1-0 Newcastle (Tavernier 37')

Marcus Tavernier breaks the deadlock for the hosts!

Joelinton certainly won't want to watch this back, he has had a mare.

The midfielder loses the ball before Antoine Semenyo collects the ball on the right.

The winger swings in a low cross and Tavernier is there to turn home the opener.

A deserved goal.

We have our first yellow card now, Joe!

Rayan Ait-Nouri goes into the book for a poor challenge and Darren England can't keep his cards in his pocket any longer.

13:36

OFF THE BAR! Bournemouth 0-0 Newcastle

Amid all the madness at Molineux, Antoine Semenyo just hit the bar for Bournemouth.

He cuts inside from the left and rockets the ball against the bar - I' pretty sure it's still shaking.

13:33

'Strange no yellow cards'

Joe Bernstein, Mail Sport, at Molineux:

The strangest part of the action at Molineux is referee Darren England not yet showing a yellow card. Nicolas Jackson alone has sparked two scuffles between the players for antagonistic behavior.
13:31, 29'

Wolves 1-1 Chelsea

There are afters yet again!

Matheus Cunha gets into it with Nicolas Jackson again as he celebrates and it all kicks off.

Cunha runs over to Jackson and has a few words before it sparks a group mini-brawl.

Molineux responds with uproar. This is one hell of a fixture, who would have expected this?

It's pure flames.

13:28, 27'

Goal:Wolves 1-1 Chelsea (Cunha 27')

Matheus Cunha hurst Chelsea once again!

10 minutes after seeing a goal disallowed, Cunha find the back of the net and this one will count.

A superb goal.

13:27, 24'

Wolves 0-1 Chelsea

Matt Doherty is down and in some pain, it looks like he has hurt his thigh.

This match is going to have a lot of stoppage time, my guess would be seven minutes the way things are going.

This is a massive blow for Wolves if he can't continue.

13:24

'Sa fakes injury'

Kieran Gill, Mail Sport, at Molineux:

Interesting there with Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa dropping down injured to force a break in play. Seems he is absolutely fine and suspicion could be that Wolves did it purposefully so that Gary O'Neil could have a tactical chat as his entire team came over to the touchline. Happened last season with a few Premier League clubs, but tough for referees to police.
13:23

'Newcastle not convincing'

Craig Hope, Mail Sport, at the Vitality Stadium:

Newcastle have started a lot better than a week ago, but still they needed Nick Pope just now to save from Evanilson.
The visitors aren't particularly convincing when trying to play out from the back at times. But Isak is having a lot of joy running Bournemouth's defenders at the other end. His final product has been short so far, however.
13:23, 20'

CHANCE! Bournemouth 0-0 Newcastle

This match has come alive.

Evanilson comes close to scoring his first goal for the club but Nick Pope denies him with a smart save.

This guy is going to score a lot of goals for the Cherries.

13:21

'Boos acting as fuel for Madueke'

Joe Bernstein, Mail Sport, at Molineux:

Attempts by Wolves fans to put off Noni Madueke for a rude social media post about their town have backfired. The loud boos have only acted as fuel for the Chelsea winger who has been unplayable in the opening 20 minutes at Molineux.
13:20, 18'

CHANCES! Wolves 0-1 Chelsea

I can barely keep up with this match, I think it's basketball I am watching, not football.

Noni Madueke causes problems at one end as he looks for Cole Palmer but Wolves manage to hook it clear.

The hosts break straight away from their clearance and Matheus Cunha slides wide from close range.

It's breathless.

13:18, 16'

DISALLOWED GOAL!

This match is just relentless!

At one end Nicolas Jackson looks like he is through to add a second but Yerson Mosquera gets back to put shove him off the ball.

Wolves then go up the other end and have the ball in the net thanks to Matheus Cunha, but their joy is short-lived.

The flag goes up for offside on Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Wolves 0-1 Chelsea

It really has been a feisty start to this match.

This is the incident that happened following the goal, Nicolas Jackson obviously upset Mario Lemina and Matheus Cunha.

Since then, this match had been 100 miles per hour.

13:15, 12'

Wolves 0-1 Chelsea

Jorgen Strand Larsen has just called on the crowd to make more noise and they respond.

I mean, I'm not sure he needed to do that as Molineux was absolutely bouncing already.

They love it, though.

BIG CHANCE! Wolves 0-1 Chelsea

Wolves should be level!

Yerson Mosquera has a glorious chance to equalise from a corner but he somehow misses the target.

he meets Matheus Cunha's corner and you just expect him to head home, but he nods the ball wide.

What a start we have had to this match.

13:10

'Jackson rubbed it in Wolves fans faces'

Kieran Gill, Mail Sport, at Molineux:

When Chelsea scored, they celebrated in front of their own fans, then Nicolas Jackson broke away to go rub it in the faces of Wolves' supporters. That sparked a squabble between both sets of players.
13:08, 8'

Bournemouth 0-0 Newcastle

Evanilson is not afraid of the Premier League, that's for sure.

Bournemouth's club record signing is putting himself about early on and Emil Krafth has already had to fly in to deny him.

A bright start for the hosts.

13:06, 5'

Wolves 0-1 Chelsea

Noni Madueke is being booed with every touch by the Wolves fans, they are not happy with his comments.

It was the winger's shot that won the corner and the jeers were deafening.

They then came again as the players got into following the goal. A tasty start.

13:03, 2'

Goal:Wolves 0-1 Chelsea (Jackson 2')

A dream start for Chelsea!

Nicolas Jackson gets his account for the season up and running with a superb header from a corner.

It's not an easy chance for the forward but he takes it in style and wheels away in celebration.

That is exactly what the away side needed.

KICK-OFF: Wolves 0-0 Chelsea

The atmosphere in Molineux is incredible, the fans are well up for this.

The weather is not so nice in the West Midlands, but that doesn't matter.

The football will be great.

KICK-OFF: Bournemouth 0-0 Newcastle

The ball is rolling in Bournemouth!

It's a lovely sunny day on the south coast, but which team will it shine on in terms of the result?

12:56

'Another week of news for Newcastle'

Craig Hope, Mail Sport, at the Vitality Stadium:

It's been another week in which Newcastle have been in the news for off-field reasons, namely Kieran Trippier's desire to leave the club and a changing of the captaincy.
What has been lost a little is that they need to perform a lot better than they did against Southampton to beat Bournemouth here. Before Fabian Schar's red on the half hour, the Saints outplayed Newcastle, who looked some way short of their very best. Anyway, here come the teams!
12:54

Blues leaky at the back

Chelsea have not been very strong on the road in 2024, especially in defence.

The Blues have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last 18 away games in all competitions.

The last time they did was in a win over Fulham last October - crazy!

If they want a win today, a clean sheet could be a necessity.

12:48

Kick-off closing in...

Now is the time to excited.

We are now under 15 minutes from kick-off at Molineux, and the Vitality Stadium.

The players seem to be happy about it too, just look at the smile on Joao Felix's face.

Does he know something we don't?

Cunha's joy vs Chelsea

I bet Matheus Cunha is buzzing to be back in the Wolves team today, Chelsea might not feel the same way.

The last time these two sides faced off, Cunha bagged a hat-trick in a huge 4-2 win over the Blues.

It's by far his best performance at the club since joining in January 2023, he was on fire that day.

Can he deliver again against the west London side?

Madueke's mishap

Now this is a story that made me giggle last night.

Chelsea's Noni Madueke is starting for the Blues today away at Wolves, but it's fair to say he isn't a fan of the city he is playing in.

He accidentally posted on his main Instagram account that everything about the city is 's***'.

He saw the funny side, though, and posted almost immediately that it was to the wrong account.

We all make mistakes, but that is a massive cock-up.

I guess that's why players have social media teams now.

12:32

Howe returns

Eddie Howe is back down south.

The Newcastle manager spent nearly half his life at Bournemouth as both a player and a manager.

11 of those years were as a player and the other 11 were as a manager, where he took them up to the Premier League for the first time.

It's not his first time back there as the Magpies boss, but I bet it still feels strange.

'Evanilson will help us'

Andoni Iraola, Bournemouth manager, speaking to Sky Sports:

I had very difficult decisions to make during the week. I think the demands of the game will be different to against Nottingham Forest. We have depth in the squad and if we change a lot then those on the bench will contribute too. I hope we can keep the intensity for 90 minutes.

On starting signing Evanilson:

When you start a Premier League game for the first time it is a question mark. He has been training well and we will see. We trust him, I think he will help us and the sooner he can start helping us, the better.
12:22

Palmer in at No10

No, Cole Palmer is not the new Prime Minister, we have already rotated through them enough time in the last few years.

Fans and experts alike have been screaming for Palmer to get his go in the attacking midfield slot instead of the wing.

Well, they are all getting their wishes granted today.

With Noni Madueke on the right and Mykhailo Mudryk on the left, Palamer will slot in behind Nicolas Jackson.

Will he shine in the role? I think he will.

'Trippier a massive part of our future'

Eddie Howe, Newcastle United manager, speaking to Sky Sports:

I think Lloyd [Kelly] has done really well in pre-season and I think he adds pace and height to our backline and they are traits we need today.
Kieran [Trippier] is just freshly back from the Euros and has had limited training. Tino Livramento had pre-season and we defended well last week. Kieran is a massive part of our future.

12:15

'Lavia problem unfortunate'

Kieran Gill, Mail Sport, at Molineux:

Romeo Lavia's hamstring irritation is unfortunate for the midfielder after his injury-plagued last campaign. Lavia was Chelsea's best performer in pre-season, starting all six of their friendlies.
Still a strong Chelsea side, nonetheless. Will be interesting to see how Mykahilo Mudryk gets on. So much potential to that player, but Maresca now the latest manager to try to unlock it.
12:11

A familiar face

I bet Pedro Neto will have a strange feeling when he steps out on the Molineux turf today. He spent five years doing it in a Wolves strip.

Well, today he will do it adorning the blue of Chelsea after his summer move to west London.

He hasn't been chosen to start the match, but it would not be a surprise if he was given the nod to come off the bench.

If he is then he will come on wearing a number seven shirt after Raheem Sterling was stripped of it this week.

He will most likely get a good reaction if he does come on, going by the fact he was cheered by some Wolves fans as he got off the Chelsea team bus a few moments ago.

It will be an emotional day for him.

'Lavia out due to hamstring irritation'

Kieran Gill, Mail Sport, at Molineux:

Romeo Lavia not in Chelsea squad due to hamstring irritation. "Hopefully nothing too serious," says Enzo Maresca.
12:04

Trippier on his way out?

Kieran Trippier doesn't exactly look like a man who wants to leave Newcastle, going by this photo anyway.

The former club captain is all smiles on the south coast even though he is not starting for a second consecutive week.

After the news that he is interested in leaving the club was broken this week, it's not really a surprise that he is on the bench.

Will he be used by Eddie Howe today, or is Trippier on borrowed time?

Lavia misses out

Have we rewound to last season?

Romeo Lavia is not in the Chelsea squad to face Wolves today and we are still awaiting an explanation.

The Belgian midfielder missed the majority of last season due to injury but impressed hugely during pre-season.

He got his chance to shine against Manchester City and certainly took it, he was their best player on the day.

So when the teamsheet came out and Lavia was not on it, it's fair to say many people are shocked.

If he is injured again that's a massive blow for Chelsea.

11:53

Maresca: 'It's not brutal'

Enzo Maresca on the size of Chelsea's squad, on Wednesday:

They (Sterling and Chilwell) are training apart. We have a big squad and it is impossible to give them all minutes. If they are looking for minutes, then it is better if they leave. If they do not leave, then they have a contract here and they are Chelsea players.
Brutal? I don't think so. I try to be honest. I can repeat again if it's not clear: I spoke with Raheem before the (Manchester) City game. I said he is going to struggle to get minutes with us. With Chilly, I said he is a lovely guy, but he is going to struggle because of his position.
If you define this as ā€œbrutalā€, it is up to you to decide. For me, it's not brutal, it's just honest. I'm not saying Raheem is not a good player but I prefer different kinds of wingers. This is the reason why.
If it's six-year contract, or a 20-year contract, I don't care. I'm just here to make the right decisions for the team. About the contract situation, it's not my job.
You like to say we have 42 or 43 players. Today's session is with 20 players. Yesterday's session was with 21. But the other 15 or 20, they are training apart. Chelsea players, yes, 42 or 43, sure, but they are not working with me every day. I don't see them so it's not a mess like it looks from outside. Absolutely not.
11:50

Chaos at Chelsea

It's been a chaotic week at Cobham, and that's putting it lightly.

It's common knowledge that Chelsea have been happy-clappy with transfers ever since Todd Boehly acquired the club in 2022.

They have already made nine this summer with Joao Felix the latest of those, coming in this week.

I'll be blunt, they have a huge squad.

Like, I mean it's massive. The amount of players that walk into the training ground every week is pretty ridiculous.

It means that Enzo Maresca has become pretty brutal with who he allows to train with the first team, although, he doesn't seem to think so.

The likes of Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, and Trevoh Chalobah, have all been frozen out and now train on their own.

The news of this rightfully hit the headlines this week. How can so many top players just be pushed out like that?

It will be interesting to see if the noise around the club will affect their performance on the pitch today.

Newcastle Team News - Kelly STARTS

Kieran Trippier does not make the team once again.

It has been revealed that the full-back wants out of Newcastle and he has to settle for a place on the bench today.

Lewis Hall does too as he is replaced by Emil Krafth and Lloyd Kelly will face his former side.

11:46

Bournemouth Team News - Evanilson STARTS

Club record Evanilson will start in a Bournemouth shit for the first time this afternoon.

He takes his place up front with Antoine Semenyo moving onto the wing.

Marcos Senesi also returns after missing last week's draw with Nottingham Forest due to illness.

Happy, Cherries?

11:46

Chelsea Team News - NO Lavia

Wow, Romeo Lavia is not in the Chelsea squad...

The Belgian midfielder was a real positive point for the Blues in their loss to Manchester City last week, but he misses out today.

He is replaced by Noni Madueke, who I'm sure is delighted to be in involved in a place he adores so much.

Mykhailo Mudryk is also in as he replaces Christopher Nkunku, while new signing Joao Felix takes a spot on the bench.

Pedro Neto doesn't start on his return to Molineux.

11:45

Wolves Team News - Cunha STARTS

Methus Cunha returns for Wolves!

The forward who netted a hat-trick against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge is the only change to Wolves' side that lost to Arsenal last week.

Jorgen Strand Larsen once again leads the line for the hosts while Hwang Hee-Chan joins him in attack.

Gary O'Neil is going for it today.

11:42

North vs South

It's a tale as old as time in England, North vs South.

People who have grown up in the north of the country will always say that it's better than the south, and vice versa.

You won't suck me into this debate, you all get the gist. I'm sure it's an argument you have been involved in.

Well, we will see that battle play out on the football pitch today as the Premier League's most northern side, Newcastle, travels down to the most southern team, Bournemouth.

Usually, it's the team that hails from the north that pull the win out of the bag, they have only lost one of their last nine league matches against Bournemouth.

However, that defeat did come last season at the Vitality Stadium.

So, who will win the bragging rights?

11:39

Have Wolves lost their bite?

What's that saying again, all bark no bite?

Well, Wolves haven't even mustered a whimper for a while.

Including the end of last season, Gary O'Neil's side have lost four Premier League matches on the bounce.

Think that's bad? This stat is even worse. They have only won one of their last 12 competitive matches.

Yep, they've been pretty poor in 2024.

O'Neil needs that to change today. Yes, it's only the second game of the season, but after being ransacked in the summer of his best talent, he needs his side to show they are still not to be messed with.

It's the perfect time to play this Chelsea side while they have not gelled under new management, they will need to take advantage.

11:36

Can Chelsea break Molineux hoodoo?

Noni Madueke is certainly not the only Chelsea player to not be a fan of Wolverhampton.

The Blues record at Molineux in the last few years has been fairly poor, they haven't tasted victory there since 2019.

Yes, that may only be five years ago, but since that day they have had five permanent managers and signed a gazillion players.

Fikayo Tomori scored that day... that's how much has changed since then.

In their four visits since they have lost three and drawn one, it isn't a happy hunting ground for the Blues.

Enzo Maresca will want to change that today, though, especially after the week he has had.

Will Chelsea break their Molineux curse?

Saturday Recap

Before we get into the good stuff today, let's just cast our minds back one day.

It's fair to say, they delivered. Here are all of yesterday's results:

  • Fulham 2-1 Leicester City
  • Manchester City 4-1 Ipswich Town

Sunday Funday

Today is going to be a cracker, and that's a Harry guarantee!

I love Premier League Sunday's and the best thing about today is that there is a bank holiday tomorrow.

We have three belters for you to stick your teeth into this afternoon, culminating in Liverpool hosting Brentford.

But before we head to Merseyside we have a tasty double header as Chelsea travel to Wolves and Bournemouth host Newcastle.

Rather than me bumbling on in this introduction, I reckon we should just get the ball rolling, don't you?

Let's get cracking.
