on many Linux projects over the years.

The Sitterson Thermometer shows the
temperature inside and outside the Computer Science building at
the University of North Carolina. Steve
Tell designed and built the serial port thermometer; and I
wrote the server software. (This one hasn't been working in a while,
but here is another one
that Steve also built.)

DICT, a Dictionary Server
Protocol, is a new client/server protocol for serving human
language dictionaries that Bret Martin and I designed.
The protocol is described in RFC 2229.
There are two main web-based front-ends for the DICT server
that, together with freely-available command-line clients,
generate 25,000 queries each day (about 120k queries each day in 2003):
