2. Egnyte vs Onedrive
In terms of pricing, OneDrive is comparatively affordable at a starting price of $5 a month, while Egnyte starts at $10 per month.
OneDrive comes with productivity tools available in Microsoft 365 suite, while Egnyte does not and has to rely on third-party app integration. It is one of the key drivers for businesses to migrate from Egnyte to OneDrive.
3. Planning Egnyte to OneDrive Migration
Proper planning plays an integral role in setting up your company’s Egnyte to OneDrive migration for complete success. Here are some of the mission-critical migration planning tasks to prioritize:
1) Pre-Migration Analysis
Pre-migration analysis helps your team get a clear picture of your company’s Egnyte cloud storage usage and therefore is one of the most important planning steps to take. When performing a pre-migration analysis, check how the users use their individual drives along with other third-party apps.
Also, check how users collaborate as part of their daily work routines. Understanding these patterns will help your team plan the migration’s scope of work in a better way.
2) Preparing the Scope of Work
Next, plan the scope of work to ensure you get the right price quote from the migration solutions provider. Here is a list of action items to include in the scope of work:
- The total number of files and folders to migrate
- The total number of user accounts to transfer
- The types of metadata to preserve during the migration
- Any migration tool customizations needed
- Extra support service required
Preparing a proper scope of work for a justifiable price quote will help your company gain a good ROI from the migration project.
3) Communicating with Users and Stakeholders
It is highly important to communicate with the end-users and stakeholders about the migration from Egnyte to OneDrive. This will help eliminate communication silos during the migration, which, otherwise, can raise downtime risks.
4. Preparing for the Migration
With proper preparation, you can ensure that your IT team does not go off track during the migration journey. Here are some of the most important migration preparation steps to take:
1) Choosing an Egnyte to OneDrive Migration Tool
It is only by choosing the right cloud migration tool that your company can achieve 100% success in migrating the entire data from Egnyte to OneDrive for Business. Some of the key parameters to check in a migration tool are:
- Migration performance
- Security during the migration
- Capabilities to preserve complex metadata
- Scalability
- Customizability
2) User Mapping
Much of the accuracy of the migration lies in the user mapping your team has prepared. Out of the two user mapping options available, auto mapping and CSV mapping, the latter is the best option for uncompromised accuracy. We recommend following proper syntax when creating CSV user mappings.
Login Details Preparation
Your team will need to add and authenticate the Egnyte and OneDrive clouds to the migration tool/platform. Ensure that your team is ready with the admin login details of both the clouds as part of preparing for the migration.

Transferring Egnyte data to OneDrive for Business starts with choosing Egnyte as the source and OneDrive as the destination cloud. It also involves mapping user accounts and migrating sharing permissions, in-file comments, version history, external and internal shares, and other features.
The steps to migrate Egnyte to SharePoint are a bit different. You can learn about them in our Egnyte to SharePoint migration guide.
Step 1: Create a CloudFuze Account
CloudFuze provides a limited trial for IT admins or managers to test the service live.
However, in case of a full migration, reach out to our support team for a quote.
A quote is provided based on the size of the data to be migrated. Our business migration team can also provide a demo for IT admins and managers and answer their questions related to migration or our platform.
To create an account, go to CloudFuze webapp and use your email address, Google account, or Office 365 account to sign up.
Step 2: Add and Authorize Egnyte Account
Once logged in, you will be able to see a list of cloud services categorized under personal and business sections.
Click on the Egnyte logo listed under business clouds. A popup will then appear where you need to enter your Egnyte account’s admin login/access details.
Step 3: Add OneDrive for Business Account
The next step is adding OneDrive for Business (ODFB) which is the destination/target cloud account. Click on the OneDrive for Business logo from the business clouds section and then enter your ODFB/Office 365 admin login credentials.
Step 4: Verify Whether Clouds Are Added Properly
Now, click on the Clouds icon on the menu. From the Clouds page, click on the Manage Clouds tab. You should be able to see both Egnyte and ODFB accounts added here.
Step 5: Click on Team Migration
Since it is a business migration, you need to click on the Team Migration icon located in the menu on the left.
Step 6: Select Source and Destination Cloud Accounts
In this step, you need to select Egnyte as the source and OneDrive for Business as the destination cloud.
Step 7: Choose Users to be Migrated
CloudFuze has a feature called Auto-mapping that automatically matches the user accounts in Egnyte and OneDrive for Business. You can select one user, a few users, or all users in Egnyte to migrate them over to OneDrive for Business.
Step 8: Proceed to Next Step
Once you choose the user’s and data to be migrated, click on the Next button.
Step 9: Name Your Migration

Step 10: Initiate the Migration
Preview all the migration preferences you chose earlier and click on the Start Migration button once everything looks good.
Step 11: Migration Is in Progress
During the transfer process, CloudFuze shows the status as In-Progress.
Step 12: Migration Has Been Completed
When the migration is completed, the status will show as Processed.
8. Post-Migration Activities
After transferring your company’s Egnyte users and data to OneDrive, there are several post-migration steps you must take in order to ensure the proper completion of the project. Check them out below:
1) Delta Migration
Perform delta syncs to transfer the incremental changes that have accumulated during the one-time migration. These changes accumulate when users continue working on the source cloud (Egnyte) when the one-time migration is in progress.
2) Migration Validation
Validate one-time as well as delta migration to ensure all user accounts and data have been migrated properly with metadata intact. Check the migration reports to perform extensive validation.
3) User Onboarding and Go Live
After the validation is completed, proceed to the user onboarding stage. But before that, make sure to provide the users with proper training on how to use OneDrive and Microsoft 365. After the users onboard and settle in, your team may proceed with organization-wide adoption of OneDrive.

Regardless of the technical complexities and your company’s end goals, achieving complete success from the migration is possible if your team proceeds with a structured plan.
