Human Performance Lab
The construction of the Dr. Hank Cross Human Performance Laboratory stemmed from the research started in 2004 at The Citadel in the Department of Health and Human Performance (HPP). In August 2009, as a result of the research conducted here, Under Armour and Patterson Dental joined with Bite Tech Inc. to promote both the performance and protective mouthpieces, subsequently leading to considerable recognition and use by elite athletes in sports such as Major League Baseball, the National Football League, and the National Hockey League.
The Dr. Hank Cross Human Performance Laboratory began construction in May 2010 and was completed September 2010, with the opening ceremony occurring November 5th, 2010. The laboratory, which was named after Dr. Hank D. Cross, is 1400 square feet with areas dedicated to phlebotomy, exercise testing, a conference area, three offices, and locker room facilities. The research conducted in the laboratory is innovative and is making significant contributions in the dental and the exercise science research. Research conducted in the laboratory is directed by Dr. Dena Garner, Department of HPP at The Citadel and Director of the Dr. Hank Cross Human Performance Laboratory.
