  • Devils' Nick DeSimone: Dropped to minors

DeSimone was assigned to AHL Utica on Sunday.

DeSimone has been a healthy scratch in six straight games while serving as the Devils' seventh defender. He could return to the NHL before Thursday's contest against Carolina. DeSimone has two assists in nine minor-league outings this season.

  • Devils' Justin Dowling: Sent to AHL

Dowling was loaned to AHL Utica on Sunday.

Dowling has earned one assist, five shots on net and 11 hits through nine NHL appearances this season. He had been playing due to the extended absences of Curtis Lazar (knee) and Nathan Bastian (jaw), but New Jersey is off until Thursday versus Carolina. It won't be surprising if Dowling returns to a bottom-six role against the Hurricanes.

  • Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Loses tight match

Markstrom made 23 saves in a 4-0 loss to the Lightning on Saturday. He allowed three goals.

Markstrom kept his team in the game -- the Devils were down just 1-0 through two frames. In the third, the Bolts notched a power-play goal and a sharp one-timer that caught Markstrom moving before being awarded an empty-net goal after Luke Hughes threw his stick in front of Anthony Cirelli during a breakaway. The loss snapped Markstrom's three-game winning streak. Goaltending was the missing link for the Devils last season, and the 34-year-old native of Sweden has plugged that hole with eight wins, one shutout, a 2.58 GAA and a .907 save percentage.

  • Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Back in goal Saturday

Markstrom will guard the road net Saturday in Tampa Bay, Devils play-by-play announcer Matt Loughlin reports.

Markstrom will carry a three-game winning streak into Saturday's outing, including an impressive 34-save effort in a 4-1 road win over the Panthers on Tuesday. He has posted an 8-4-1 record with a .908 save percentage and a 2.54 GAA this season.

  • Devils' Luke Hughes: Secures assist Thursday

Hughes notched an assist and three shots on goal in Thursday's 6-2 win over the Panthers.

Hughes set up a Stefan Noesen tally midway through the first period. This was Hughes' second helper in 11 appearances this season, as he's struggled to generate offense after missing time early in the campaign due to a shoulder injury. The 21-year-old blueliner has added 14 shots on net, nine blocked shots and a minus-3 rating while averaging 18:31 of ice time. The Devils' blue line is pretty deep, so Hughes may remain on the third pairing while featuring on the power play.

  • Devils' Jake Allen: Had kitties' number all night long

Allen made 25 saves in a 6-2 win over Florida on Thursday.

He came into the game with a 2-8-0 record, 4.86 GAA and .865 save percentage against Florida, but he had the kitties' number all night long. Allen is 4-2-1 with two shutouts in seven starts overall this season (2.30 GAA and .916 save percentage). He's a consistently strong backup who should be deployed whenever he's in the blue paint.

  • Devils' Nico Hischier: Point-per-game pace so far

Hischier bagged three apples Thursday in a 6-2 win over Florida.

Two of the assists came on the power play. He also had three shots and one hit on the night. Hischier has four assists in his last two games after putting up a single helper over his previous five games. He has 20 points, including 10 goals, in 20 games this season, but he has gone nine games without padding that category. Hischier's best season came in 2022-23 when he fired 31 goals and put up 80 points, 256 shots and a plus-33 rating. He's well on his way to equaling that total.

  • Devils' Jack Hughes: Another three-point game

Hughes had three assists in a 6-2 win over the Panthers on Tuesday.

All three came with the man advantage. Hughes has 10 points (four goals, six assists) in his past five games. That includes three contests with three points each -- it's nice to see so many multi-point efforts. Overall, Hughes has 22 points (eight goals, 14 assists), including nine on the power play, and 65 shots in 20 games this season. He's in a tie for fourth overall for shots.

  • Devils' Stefan Noesen: Two more goals

Noesen scored twice Thursday in a 6-2 win over the Panthers.

He opened the scoring in the first when he banged in a rebound after a net-front battle. Noesen then buried a one-timer on the power play in the dying seconds of the second frame. He has 16 points, including nine goals, 35 shots and 51 hits in 20 games. Noesen's best season came in 2023-24 with 14 goals and 37 points (81 games). The 31-year-old is a fantasy revelation this season and worthy of deployment in most formats.

  • Devils' Jesper Bratt: First Mario Lemieux Hat Trick

Bratt scored a hat trick Thursday in a 6-2 win over the Panthers. It was the second of his NHL career.

Bratt delivered a Mario Lemieux hat trick - one each at even strength, on the power play and shorthanded. It's the NHL equivalent of hitting for the cycle. He's the third player in Devils history to deliver a Mario Lemieux hattie. The others were John McLean (Feb. 25, 1991) and Peter Stastny (Dec. 29, 1991). Bratt has five points in his last two games and 11 points (six goals, five assists) in his past six.

  • Devils' Jake Allen: First goalie off Thursday

Allen was the first goalie to leave the ice Thursday, Devils play-by-play announcer Matt Loughlin reports, indicating he'll tend the twine on the road versus the Panthers.

Allen has been used sparingly this season, logging just six games in which he posted a 3-2-1 record with a 2.35 GAA and two shutouts. Still, the veteran netminder's numbers are the best he's put up since 2019-20 when he was with St. Louis and registered a 2.15 GAA. If he can continue to perform well, he could grab a few starts away from Jacob Markstrom -- though he is unlikely to ever take over as the No. 1 option.

  • Devils' Nico Hischier: Delivers assist in win

Hischier posted an assist and two shots on goal in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Panthers.

Hischier shot a remarkable 22.7 percent during a 10-goal, 15-point October, but his luck has dried up. He's 0-for-8 on shots over six games in November, adding two assists. While he's at 17 points, 52 shots on net, 17 blocked shots and a plus-9 rating over 19 contests, he will need to find a bit more consistency moving forward, which shouldn't be too tough to do in a top-six role.

  • Devils' Ondrej Palat: Fills empty cage

Palat scored an empty-net goal on four shots and went plus-2 in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Panthers.

Palat has three tallies over his last seven games. The 33-year-old winger has filled a middle-six role for much of the campaign, but he's struggled to be consistent on offense. He has five points, 26 shots on net, 28 hits and a minus-5 rating. Palat is likely to be a depth scorer at best while adding some grit to the lineup.

  • Devils' Paul Cotter: Finds twine in win

Cotter scored a goal, added two PIM and logged two hits in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Panthers.

Cotter has four points, 13 hits and a plus-4 rating over his last five contests. The 24-year-old provided an insurance tally late in the third period to help the Devils pull away with the win. The power forward has seven goals, five assists, 26 shots on net, 52 hits, 12 PIM and a plus-2 rating across 19 appearances. Cotter is likely to continue filling a middle-six role, though he's not expected to be a factor on the power play.

  • Devils' Timo Meier: Tallies game-winner

Meier scored a goal on four shots, blocked three shots and added two hits in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Panthers.

Meier's goal at 17:29 of the second period was the game-winner. The winger has been limited to two tallies over six contests in November, though it doesn't help that the Devils have been shut out twice this month. Overall, he has seven goals, 14 points, 52 shots on net, 37 hits, 10 PIM and a plus-8 rating over 19 games in a top-six role.

  • Devils' Jack Hughes: Earns 300th career point

Hughes scored a goal and went plus-2 in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Panthers.

The goal was Hughes' 300th career point, an achievement he reached in 325 contests. He's racked up seven points over his last four games and now has eight goals, 11 assists, 65 shots on net and a plus-3 rating over 19 appearances this season. Hughes has been well above a point-per-game pace in the last three years, so there's still the potential for him to find another level.
