  • Mets' Donovan Walton: Notches minor-league deal with Mets

Walton signed a minor-league contract with the Mets on Friday.

Walton spent the 2024 season with the Giants organization, going 3-for-22 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored over nine games with San Francisco. He spent the majority of the year with Triple-A Sacramento, batting .303 with seven homers, 51 RBI, 53 runs scored and four stolen bases over 99 contests. The 30-year-old will look to impress with the Mets this spring in order to potentially secure a spot on the 40-man roster for 2024 campaign.

  • Mets' Jett Williams: Sprains ankle in AFL

Williams was diagnosed with a sprained right ankle Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

  • Mets' Tyrone Taylor: Out two months after dual surgeries

Taylor will be sidelined two months following hernia surgery on Oct. 30 and surgery Thursday to remove a loose body from his right elbow.

It's unclear when Taylor suffered the injuries. While the rehab will interrupt his offseason workout routine, Taylor should be ready to go for the start of spring training. The 30-year-old tentatively appears in line to start in center field for the Mets next season, although that could certainly change based on the team's offseason additions.

  • Mets' Brett Baty: Might be tried in outfield

Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns, when speaking Tuesday, didn't rule out the possibility of Baty being tried in the outfield next season, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Baty has played a bit of left field in the minors and was used there for one inning with the Mets in 2023, but he hasn't started a game in the outfield since 2022. The Mets were impressed with how he adapted to second base when used there last season, and it appears the team is aiming to continue to increase Baty's defensive versatility.
