These 43 Baby Products Will Help Raise *You* Into Your New Parenting Role

This curated mix of reviewer-loved items is likely to have that one thing you'll look back on and wonder how you could have ever raised your baby without it.

    1. A high-quality muslin swaddle that'll be a go-to item every day of your baby's swaddling stage, and (if your family is anything like mine) you'll find *many* more uses after that! I've used swaddles as burp bibs, stroller shades, picnic blankets, pillow forts, nursing covers... you name it. The light fabric and large size make for — if you ask me — a delightfully versatile baby product.

    Amazon

Promising review: "This is such a great brand at a great price point! You definitely get premium quality at an affordable price! This is a beautiful swaddle! The quality is amazing and the best thing about these blankets is that they only get softer the more you wash them! They are breathable and lightweight. They are perfect as nursing covers, or to wrap baby up to stay cozy!" —Elle Bailey

Get it from Amazon for $18.99 (available in 38 styles).

    2. A pair of sock sneakers with rubber soles for impatient babies who wanna run before they can walk. These cute pull-on shoes are way easier than laces and take seconds to put on (preventing the tantrums parents know all too well). Plus, they have real soles, which is great for babies who need the extra grip to stay upright.

Promising review: "Whoever designed these... thank you!! My granddaughter abhorred shoes of any kind. There were lots of tantrums and tears until I found these. They go on in two seconds thanks to the open design and you can see exactly where their toes are before you tighten them. I had them on her before she knew what happened and there were no tears. She got up and started walking in them and that was it. I ordered them in every size up until I got to the last size they made (I wish they made them in bigger sizes!!). She wears them year-round. Socks and shoes in the winter, shoes only in the summer. They are so soft inside and they never rub her feet or cause blisters. Great little shoes!!" —AnneMarie

Get them from Amazon for $26.99 (available in sizes 6-24m and 37 styles).

    3. A super durable tentacle teether made with a silly (but problem-solving!) design that'll seem surprisingly perfect when you try it out. The long, curved shape helps babies reach farther back, soothing more surface space than traditional teethers. The "suction cups" have just the right texture to massage sore gums, and the tentacle itself is hollow, making it lightweight and easy for a child to hold on their own, but it can also be worn on your finger — which is just plain fun.

Promising review: "I’ve tried ALL the teethers, believe me. This one truly stands out. I love how easy it is for my baby to hold it himself. I also love how I can put it on my finger and make it a fun activity for us to share together. He really gets going on the individual tentacle suckers, they definitely seem more satisfying for his little gums than others we’ve tried. Love love this product, thank you!" —Quinn

    4. An Ergobaby carrier designed with enhanced lumbar support and a *superb* airflow-friendly design. This parenting MUST is sure to keep you and your kiddo comfortable when you're out and about — until they're 45 lbs!

    Mallory Mower / BuzzFeed, Amazon

My husband and I live in Brooklyn and carry our baby everywhere, meaning we tried about half a dozen carriers over the last year. We were given several and didn't want to spend money on another carrier...but we kept fighting over who got to use the Ergo, ergot, we bought another. The sizing is really customizable. The baby sleeps in it easily, even on the subway. We credit it for her great social skills, because she's been able to see folks face-on since she was old enough to sit forward. She's in this no matter the weather — we wore this under our coats in the winter and have found it beautifully breathable this summer. We couldn't live the lives we do without our Ergobaby carriers.

Promising review: "This is breathable and sturdy. Baby finds it very comfortable and sleeps well for hours. I like the fact that it has a nice cushion to support baby’s neck. It has different straps that can be adjusted to fit the shape and size of the user." —Arnab

    5. Snoo, the award-winning pediatrician-developed bassinet that'll become a trusted companion. It's designed to recognize and respond when your baby fusses at night, playing white noise and rocking them back to sleep. If you want, you'll be able to connect to the sleep app and keep track of your infant's sleep cycle. The app will also alert you if your baby can't be settled by the bassinet and needs some human attention.

Happiest Baby, Mallory Mower / BuzzFeed

Snoo was developed by Dr. Harvey Karp, a pediatrician and author of The Happiest Baby On The Block. I'm not exaggerating when I say thinking about this bassinet makes me emotional. In fact, surprisingly so as I'm writing this review. My daughter was just over 4lbs when she was born and we couldn't believe we were able to take such a tiny baby home. I'm an anxious person and was so grateful to have a sleeping system that I was confident in. The swaddling straps are comfortable, breathable, and secure (so I knew I didn't have to worry about her rolling in the night). It follows the American Association of Pediatrics recommendations for safe sleep: swaddle, on their backs, on a flat surface. My husband and I are still surprised to this day by how comfortably we slept with a newborn in our life. I mean, I know my kid is perfect, but this bassinet *may* have had something to do with it.

Shoot! One more thing (apologies for the novel) – you can buy previously used Snoos directly from their website at a lesser price, which I consider a real class act. Rentals are also available, because the company gets that *everyone* deserves a good night's sleep, even if we can't all drop the dough on a product we'll only use for six months. You love to see it.

Get it new from Happiest Baby for $1,695 (also available pre-owned and as a rental).

    6. Or a classic bedside bassinet to place right beside you, keeping your little one safe and snug *and* keeping them at arm's reach during late night feedings. This comes in a variety of colors — don't feel like you have to compromise quality for a nice aesthetic. We CAN have it all.

Promising review: "I am so happy with this bed!! It lets me be close to my baby at night without being afraid of rolling over on him while he sleeps next to me! I also can easily pick him up and feed him if he cries! So glad I found this!" —Hannah Rodriguez

Get it from Amazon for $139.99+ (available in eight colors).

    7. An ergoPouch sleep sack that'll convert from a swaddle sleep sack — with their arms tucked in — and adjust to a toddler-friendly sleep sack once your baby is old enough to roll over. The design'll keep your baby safe, snug, and (thanks to clear TOG *thermal overall grade* ratings) the right temperature all night long!

The sleep sack above has a 1.0 TOG rating, making it ideal for room temperatures between 70 degrees–75 degrees F. Knowing what temperature your child's sleep sack is made for can help kiddos sleep longer (by not waking up from being too cold) and prevent overheating or the need for extra blankets, which can be a suffocation risk. Be sure to check out the ergoPouch landing page so you can see the different styles and TOG ratings for each item (the higher the number, the warmer the material).

This sleep sack is my toddler's version of a beloved baby doll. She *loves* it and wears it every single night and for most of her naps. If she isn't in it, she sleeps far, far less. She can move comfortably in it and it's a cinch to keep on during a diaper change.

Promising review: "We tried several big name brands and had to return everything except for these. They fit him perfectly and safely (they're tighter around the neck so they won't bunch up over his face). The sleeves snap open so his arms can be free — we keep the house around 70 degrees and he sleeps comfortably in his pouch and a long sleeved onesie. Expensive but completely worth it. We ended up buying several." —Megan F.

Get it from Amazon for $49.95 (available in three sizes, four colors, and two TOG levels).

    8. An Oxo diaper wipes dispenser sure to be a beloved addition to your changing station. The one-press opening and weighted interior means you can grab wipes with one hand, which is unnervingly necessary when your baby's favorite time to wiggle around is on top of the dresser while being changed.

    Mallory Mower / BuzzFeed, www.amazon.com

This does everything it claims and makes changing so much easier than it could be. It fits large packages of wipes and really does work with one hand. Out of all the changing tools I use, this is the one I recommend the most.

Promising review: "This is easily one of my favorite baby products! Trust me, take the wipes out of the original package and put them in here. THEY WILL NOT DRY OUT! I’ve even left it open accidentally for a few hours, and the wipes did not dry out. The weight on top makes it so easy to pull out one wipe at a time. The best part is that you can do everything one-handed! Super necessary when you have a blowout or just a wiggly baby." —Lisa Morrison

Get it from Amazon for $22.99 (available in three colors).

    9. A stylin' and spill-free silicone snack cup your child can easily get their hand into, but *can't* easily pull a handful of treats out of (more like one at a time). Sigh, imagine the amount of cereal saved by this system.

Promising review: "I have a few of these now, and I've have had most of them for a couple of years. They're heavily used, extremely durable (I accidentally ran one over w my car and it was totally fine) and still look brand new years later! The only reason I even keep purchasing more is because they're cute and I like options." —GrlMom

Get it from Amazon for $13.99 (available in 17 colors).

    10. The Nanit Superior Sleep Set for anxious parents who are about to switch their Netflix nights to baby-monitor binge sessions, just to make sure the kid doesn't get abducted by aliens in the night. This connects to an app so you can keep an eye on your little tyke wherever you are. It also has two-way communication, a night-light, plays music, and includes a motion and breathing monitor, so you'll know when they're awake or simply wiggling around as they dream away.

This full set includes the camera and wall mount, a travel stand, a sound and light monitor, a belly band tracker, and a night light.

Promising review: "This is the best baby monitor there is! The best monitor for parents — there are countless features that make me feel more confident in letting my baby sleep in their room! First, knowing I can always check on my baby no matter where I am has been a game changer. I love that with my insights membership I can always see how long my baby has been asleep and use that information to understand if they need their schedule adjusted, and I can do all of this when I’m not even at home! I also love the two-way talk feature so I can talk to my now toddler when she wakes up in the morning! Nanit is probably the first product I recommend to all my expecting friends! You’ll love it." —MKD

Get it from Amazon for $379.99.

    11. A 360-degree spill-proof cup designed with a game-changing silicone top that can be sipped from any spot (hence the 360 name). The sealed top is non-spill on its own, unlike pop-lid sippy cups. The water comes out from the very edge and only when sucked. This teaches your kiddo how to drink from a traditionally shaped cup very early and without the need for a straw. Sip, sip, hooray!

Finding this cup makes me feel *very* in-the-know, and I can't believe it's not yet a classic infant cup. Because it's absolute Glinda The Good Witch witchcraft. We originally got our baby an infant cup with a straw, but she was more interested in playing with the lid and would rarely drink from it. The day we got this she caught on instantly – her bottles were gone the same week with no tears and a healthily hydrated baby! I love that it gives her the confidence to drink from regular cups and water bottles, because she now knows how to gulp. Plus, I can just throw this in a bag and go – no drips, ever! This has made our life SO easy.

    12. An automatic baby swing with several different rocking and sound options (my baby's favorite was the "road trip" setting) — this is here to soothe your sweetheart when you need an extra set of hands. Place them in the rocker within eyesight, and it's gonna be a great spot for a few minutes of baby-free laundry folding, dishwashing, eating... two arms really aren't enough.

    Amazon

My husband and I are big on baby carrying, so we were surprised by how much we liked this item even though we didn't use it constantly. It was mostly our go-to when cooking, where we didn't want the baby attached to us when we had something boiling on the stove or when pulling things out of the oven. She *loved* the mirror and black and white balls that hang from this. LOVED them. One of her first nicknames was "mirror baby" because of the delighted giggles she'd get when looking up at these. The range of adjustments was amazing, because she really did have favorite sounds and motions and no interest in others. After some experimenting, this became a customized soothing machine we all enjoyed.

Promising review: "Super easy to set up, use, and the baby seems to enjoy it! It helps me be able to put her down and get things done around the house while she listens to music and is soothed by any of the settings. I love that you can connect your phone to it and play your own music as well as use the app to turn it on / off. There are lots of settings to choose from which is nice." —Olivia Dodrill

    13. A Trip Trap High Chair from Stokke that'll convert from a newborn-compatible high chair to a regular chair, adjusting in size for your kiddo as they grow. (It holds up to 300 lbs!) Good thing it's good looking because you'll have this around until your baby is all grown up and out of the house (and insists on taking their chair with them).

Promising review: "Fantastic high chair. Design is lightweight, sleek, and pretty. It’s well made and you can tell. It’s not cheap materials or cheap work. Positioning is ergonomic without comprising comfort for my little one. Easy to clean. Assembly is also easy. I was dreading the assembly portion of it and no qualms there. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth it? Also Yes. If you’re on the fence, just get it. You'll use it for years, several times a day. Rather than spending mroe money on several cheaper chairs, just invest in this one." —Foram Dave

It connects to an app on your phone so you can collect and track the data over time, helping you seem really on top of things at your pediatrician appointments.

Promising review: "The size of the sterilizer is perfect for Avent bottles as described but also works well for other bottles. I was able to fit the large 9oz bottles. I was also able to use it for my pump parts. It works in a matter of minutes, which is faster than other sterilizers. You can't sterilize a huge amount of items at once but since it takes so little time I can sterilize a lot in a short amount of time. The value for money has been perfect for me because I've already used it a ton in just the first week of baby's life. It is very easy to clean if you have a large enough sink." —hannamarie94

    16. Hatch Rest Baby Sound Machine you can use as a two-way audio monitor, a night-light, a white noise machine, an alarm clock, and a sleep trainer. This lovely little light can glow red, which is less alarming than other bright lights, so your baby doesn't wake all the way up from harsh overhead lighting. This can be your companion during early morning diaper changes and late-night feedings, helping soothe the whole family through those wild infant hours.

    Amazon

Here's what BuzzFeed editor Heather Braga loves it: "The Hatch Rest is ideal for parents as it also has a sound monitor option. For the hour or so my son used to sleep in a bassinet in our room before my husband and I got into bed, I was able to listen in and hear if he was fussing, crying, etc. We were also able to set it to a specific program so the light/sounds turn off on their own in the morning (one less thing for us to think about). You can check out my full review on both the Hatch Rest and Hatch Restore here."

Promising review: "My favorite feature about this product is that I can control everything through my phone. If I'm in a different room in the house, but I want the nursery to play birds chirping for the baby, I can do that through my phone. The audio baby monitor works very well and the speaker quality through the Hatch is terrific. I also love that it's travel-friendly, so we use this baby monitor whenever we're on the go. Lastly, the night-light is perfect when I'm changing the baby's diaper at 3 a.m. or during a middle-of-the-night feeding." —Chelsea

My ds also ended up getting eczema and hives from a laundry detergent we had switched to. This completely soothed it away. It was gone by the next day. Needless to say, this is my go-to soothing-everything solution. It stays in the diaper bag and medicine cabinet. A must-have!" —Andrea

At our house, this little seal is named Lou (a nod to all the other Arrested Development fans out there), and it's a beloved member of our family. We've had this since before the baby was born (around 15 months), and you better believe I tested it out ahead of time. I love burning hot baths, so I knew I was no judge of safe water temperatures. This reads really clearly (blinking blue if it is too cold and red if it is too hot) and fast. We are a less-is-more toy family, so my daughter loves having a cute toy to play with, and I love that it doubles as a useful tool. Cheers all around.

Promising review: "I absolutely love this thing. All you have to do is throw it in the water and it starts to read the temp. No need to turn it on and off. It blinks red whenever the temperature is considered too high, which I love because whenever I’m getting a newborn ready to get in the bath I don’t want to have to sit and hover over it reading the temp — if it’s not blinking I know its within a good range. So just turn your warm water on, throw this guy in and you’ll know instantly if it’s good to go or needs adjusting. Plus it’s super cute!" —Madalyn Roche

Promising review: "After using this for almost three months now I absolutely love the Owlet! As a new mom who's been afraid of SIDS as I have a family member whose baby brother passed away from SIDS before all of this technology to prevent it, I was afraid of the possibility and this product has helped me to sleep at night. I had pre-partum and now postpartum depression and one thing I have never worried about every single night is my baby sleeping soundly all throughout the night. I do still check on him but I'm not panicking trying to figure out if my baby is breathing. I love being able to see his sleep cycle and keep up with his movements! To anyone looking for a great gift for a new mom to be able to use for a long time as well as for several children, this product is the one to go with. Promising review: "These are honestly the best corner protectors we have tried! We've had a few others in our house and they are constantly falling off because they lost their sticky or our daughter pulls them off because they are huge and they catch her eye, and they are just not pretty to look at. But these are so small and clear, you don't even notice they are there (so our daughter doesn't even try to pull them off) they stick very well, and have already protected her little head from hitting a corner. I'm not sure how they will peel off, since we haven't tried yet, but so far so good!" —E3232

    Mallory Mower / BuzzFeed

I got this chair during my second trimester and I really and truly cried when I sat down and realized it had adjustable lumbar support. I read the entire ACOTAR series while comfortably sitting in this chair — we've been through a *lot* together. It is so comfortable that I think it's an actual crime it's pitched toward nurseries, because *everyone* should know about this.

Promising review: "I sit/lay on my glider every day to nurse and sleep on. I exclusively breastfeed my 4-month-old baby so my back and arms are so achy. Good thing I have the world’s most comfortable glider. I tried other rocking chairs from Pottery Barn and Crate & Barrel; they were either too narrow (where I can't sit crisscross applesauce) or too short. Nurture& definitely tops all other products out there in the same price range." —Cat K.

Get it on sale from Nurture& for $1,374 (available in three colors).

    24. A fancy touchless forehead thermometer to take anyone's temperature in seconds — and without bothering them if they're getting some needed rest or sleep.

Promising review: "This is a great thermometer — accurate, looks great, a must have! If you have kids, forget about sticking a thermometer in their ears. I have four kids now and a thermometer is a must-have. Hold this thing close to the forehead, push the button in and you get a reading in about one second. This thing looks good, feels good, and is accurate. We’ve used different thermometers in the past. The head scanner that you run across the forehead...no good. In-ear thermometers...accurate, but expect a battle. Rectal thermometers...very accurate, but expect a war. This is the easiest one out of all of them. We find it especially useful when we need the quick 'I don’t feel that great' check...i.e., man cold. Overall, highly recommend!."—BearDownChi1

Promising review: "I absolutely love this breast pump! As someone with 'elastic nipples,' this pump has truly been a game changer for me. I had previously tried pricier options and was close to giving up on finding a wearable solution. I felt defeated, only managing to pump a single ounce at a time and dealing with significant pain from other wearables. After reading that silicone flanges could work better for those with elastic nipples, I decided to give this pump a shot, especially after seeing its positive reviews. This year was my first summer as a mom, and I was a bundle of nerves about keeping my baby safe. Every time we walked out our door, my child (who shares the same vampiric aversion to sunlight as I do) seems to hate the bright light. I was *thrilled* to find 1) sunglasses that fit her/stay on and 2) find ones this CUTE. They come with an adjustable strap, but the pliable sides help the frames stay on all on their own. These are also indestructible! Believe me, my kid has tried everything. One time? I sat on them. They survived – I just had to pop a lens back in. I was shocked, and wrote this review up immediately after. These are worth every penny.

No worries, new parents! Cradle cap — aka, seborrheic dermatitis — is a very common dry scalp condition that affects infants.

Promising review: "The pictures posted here are legit. It makes removal so much easier and gives more consistent removal than my previous method of washcloths or just scratching the cradle cap off with my fingernails. It’s amazing and gross and wonderful. My babe doesn’t even flinch when I spend 10 minutes clearing his scalp of all the goo. It seems to be soothing to him. I just apply baby shampoo, then brush a little with the blue brush. Then I slowly start to comb in sections all in one direction. Then I go back and forth in different directions. It’s shocking the amount of dead skin that comes off. I’ve even used it successfully in his eyebrows (he gets some cradle cap there, too). This is a KEEPER!" —ZMomUtah
