After the release of her film Hustlers in 2019, there was a lot of Oscars buzz surrounding the flick — and Jennifer says she was sure she was going to get a nomination.

Unfortunately, that nomination never came, and the entertainer's immediate reactions were captured on camera in her new documentary Halftime.

Jennifer explained that after not sleeping before the nomination announcements, she picked up a phone call from her sister Lynda, who immediately said, "I hate these fucking people" — and she knew the news wasn't good.

And after feeling like she had "let everybody down" following her Golden Globes loss, Jennifer says the Oscars snub was especially tough.

"The truth is I really started to think I was going to get nominated," Jennifer said, adding, "I got my hopes up because so many people were telling me I would be and then it didn't happen."

Jennifer shared that after taking some time to think about the whole thing, she realized she hadn't done the film "for an award" or to seem like she's the "best performer in the world."

"No, I do this to tell stories and to affect change and to connect with people and make them feel things because I want to feel something," Jennifer admitted.

She continued, "That's why I do it, because I want to make the world a better place in my own little way."

And instead of staying upset about the whole thing, Jennifer committed herself to "keep working" and being "unafraid to get loud and use my voice in the best way that I can."
