PJ Harvey On Target for U.K Albums Chart Crown, Drake Leading Singles Chart Race
PJ Harvey could have her first U.K. No. 1 album when the chart is published this Friday.
PJ Harvey is on the verge of being crowned queen of the U.K. albums chart for the first time, while Drake’s “One Dance” (Cash Money/Republic) is shuffling toward a second week atop the singles chart.
Harvey’s latest and ninth studio album The Hope Six Demolition Project (Island) is 2,500 combined sales ahead of her closest competitor, Santana’s new set IV (Santana IV), at the half-way stage of the chart week, the Official Charts Company reports. Should The Hope Six Demolition Project stay in its current position at the close of business this Friday, it’ll be Harvey’s first stint at the chart summit.

It’s something of an aberration for Harvey to have never tasted chart-topping success, having achieved a career best of No. 3 for 1993’s Rid Of Me. The great British singer is the only artist to have won the Mercury Music Prize on two separate occasions (in 2001 with Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea and 2011 with Let England Shake).
Santana’s IV is at No. 2 on the Official U.K. Albums Chart Update, the veteran guitarist’s loftiest position on the chart since 1999’s chart-topping Supernatural. It’s ahead of Adele’s 25 (XL) at No. 3, Sia’s This is Acting (Monkey Puzzle/RCA) at No. 4 and Aled Jones‘ One Voice (Decca) at No. 5.
Meanwhile, a pair of albums drop into the Official Chart Update following last Saturday’s Record Store Day (April 16): a special edition release of David Bowie’s The Man Who Sold The World (Parlophone), which re-enters the chart at No. 8 (its previous best is No. 52) and a re-issue of Madonna’s Like A Virgin & Other Big Hits! (Rhino), originally a Japan-only release in 1984 which is at No. 40. There’s also new releases in the top 40 from Andre Rieu, Hawkwind, Graham Nash, Sturgill Simpson and Phil Collins.
Drake Gets His First Solo No. 1 Single in the U.K. With ‘One Dance’
When the Official Singles Chart is published on Friday, Drake’s “One Dance” (featuring Wizkid & Kyla) should be at the summit, again. The song last week gave the Canadian rapper his first chart-topper as a lead artist, though he did reach the top as a guest on Rihanna’s “What’s My Name” in 2010.
Sia’s “Cheap Thrills” feat. Sean Paul remains at No. 2 on the Update, former chart-topper Mike Posner’s “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” (Island) stays at No. 3, Fifth Harmony and Ty Dolla $ign’s “Work from Home” (Epic/Syco) is unchanged at No. 4, and Tinie Tempah and Zara Larsson are on track to crack the top 5 with “Girls Like” (Parlophone).
