Nelly’s “Dilemma,” which has been No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the past nine weeks, is now the U.K.’s favorite single too. The Universal release, which features Destiny‘s Child’s Kelly Rowland, went straight to the top of the U.K. singles chart yesterday (Oct. 21), unseating Spanish trio Las Ketchup’s “The Ketchup Song (Asereje)” (Columbia).
Meanwhile, there was no movement at the top of the U.K. album chart, as Will Young’s “From Now On” (S/BMG) stayed ahead of the Rolling Stones’ “Forty Licks” (Virgin/ABKCO/Decca) and Elvis Presley’s “ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits” (RCA), which held at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
The singles chart also contained a prominent debut at No. 3 for south London hip-hop/R&B posse Big Brovaz with “Nu Flow” (Epic). Samantha Mumba’s “I’m Right Here” (Wild Card/Polydor) became her fourth top-5 U.K. hit, entering at No. 5, while Welsh rockers Manic Street Preachers returned at
No. 6 with “There by the Grace of God” (Epic). The cut is the lead single from the trio’s “Forever Delayed” compilation, due Oct. 28 internationally.
L.L. Cool J’s “Luv U Better” (Def Jam) came in at No. 7, his best showing since “Ain’t Nobody” topped the British chart in February 1997. There was also good news for Twisted Nerve artist Badly Drawn Boy, whose “You Were Right” opened at No. 9. That’s his first-ever U.K. top-10 single; only one of his previous seven charting releases had made the top-20.
Fleetwood Mac’s “The Very Best Of” (WSM) benefited from a TV advertising campaign to enter at No. 7 on the album chart, which also offered a top-10 debut to Australian artist Holly Valance. Her first album, “Footprints” (London), which contains the hits “Kiss Kiss” and “Down Boy,” arrived at No. 9.
Across Europe, Las Ketchup is now into a fifth week at the top of the Eurochart Hot 100 Singles survey, while the Presley compilation tops the European Top 100 Albums chart for a second week.
