Financial Aid

There are many options including grants, loans, and scholarships to help offset the costs of earning a degree. If you are pursuing an undergraduate, graduate, graduate certificate, or doctoral program, you are strongly encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually to learn what federal, state, and institutional financial aid you may qualify for.

The decision to pursue a degree is significant. Walsh is here to help you sort through your options and answer your questions.

Financial Aid FAQs

Financial aid is determined using the results of the FAFSA. Walsh receives FAFSA results on a weekly basis. To receive a financial aid offer, a student must be an active or admitted Walsh student. Most students will their financial aid offer within 5-10 business days from receipt of their FAFSA results. Offers are sent to the student’s Walsh email.

The Financial Aid office may ask for additional information before a financial aid offer can be made. It is important that the student respond to a request for additional information upon notification by the Financial Aid office.

Students may be eligible for financial aid if the following requirements are met:

  • Enrolled at least half-time in an eligible program
  • U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Permanent Resident (which requires a copy of an I-151 or I-551 card)
  • Has a high diploma, GED or at least 60 acceptable transfer credit hours from a community college to Walsh
  • Is performing Satisfactory Academic Progress
  • Is NOT in default of a federal education loan (Perkins, FFELP, Direct Lending)

Additional requirements include:

  • Must be enrolled in a degree program or an approved certificate program
  • Master’s degree students must be enrolled in master’s level courses
  • Courses taken as an audit are not eligible for financial aid

Step 1: Complete initial requirements

Go to https://studentaid.gov/ and:

  • Complete Entrance Counseling
  • Complete Loan Agreement for a Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan (Master Promissory Note). This is good for 10 years

Both must be completed before Walsh will process your loan request

Step 2: Register for classes

The Financial Aid Office will not process your loan request until you are registered at least half-time for classes. Half-time is defined for undergraduate students as 6 undergraduate credit hours & graduate students as 3 graduate credits hours.

Step 3: Complete the Financial Aid Self-Service

To receive a Direct Loan please:

  1. Log into the Walsh Student Portal
  2. Under the WebAdvisor section, click on Self-Service for Students
  3. Select Financial Aid from the menu
  4. Complete the Review and accept your Financial Aid Award Package available in the homepage checklist of your student self-service page.

To avoid delays, make sure you have completed Step 1. You must be registered for classes before accepting, declining or reducing loans in financial aid self-service. Loan requests from self-service must be received by the financial aid office a minimum of 10 business days prior to the first tuition due date in order to avoid a late fee by the Office of Finance and Accounting.

Step 4: Loan disbursement

If you have successfully completed steps 1 – 3, loan funds are scheduled to disburse (apply) to your student account two weeks after the semester begins. You must be enrolled at least half-time at the time of disbursement to receive your loan. Student refund checks from excess funds (if any) are direct deposited or mailed within 14 days of disbursement by the Office of Finance and Accounting.

Student may sign up for direct deposit at www.walshcollege.edu/admissions-information/financial-aid/direct-deposit-refunds.

Step 5: All done

Please allow for adequate processing time of your loan request, generally 10 business days. For bill due dates and late fee assessment, please visit www.walshcollege.edu/important-dates.

Regular class attendance is required for students receiving financial aid. If a student fails to begin attendance or stops attending classes (unofficial withdrawal), financial aid may be reduced or cancelled.

At the end of each semester students who fail to earn credit (F-grade) for coursework are reviewed. Students who receive an F-grade because they never attended class will have all financial aid cancelled. Students who receive an F-grade because they stopped attending class may have their financial aid reduced based on a Return of Title IV calculation. Students who earned an F-grade will not be affected by this policy. An F-grade may affect a student’s Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress.

This policy applies to consortium students attending Walsh and a community college. Attendance will be reviewed for courses at both schools to determine if the grades were caused by a failure to attend.

If the student has been determined eligible to receive financial aid including scholarships, grants and loans, funds will be applied after the end of the drop/add period each semester. You must be enrolled at least half-time after the drop/add period for payment to be applied to your account.

Scholarships are limited to prospective, incoming students.  Students currently enrolled at Walsh are not eligible to be considered for scholarship funding.

Prospective, incoming undergraduate and graduate students may complete the scholarship application. You must apply for the semester you will be starting at Walsh. You will need to apply by the deadline date listed on the scholarship application.

As the FAFSA collects income information from a prior year, we know that the information reported on your FAFSA may not represent your current situation. If you have experienced job loss or a significant reduction of income, you may benefit from requesting Professional Judgment to assess your current situation.

The Department of Education (DOE) gives financial aid administrators the authority to make adjustments to FAFSA data when warranted, to more accurately reflect a family’s financial situation. Documentation is required to make this assessment.

If you have experienced a substantial change in your financial circumstances, please contact us at 248-823-1685 or [email protected]. We will be happy to explain the Professional Judgment process to you.
