🇻🇺𝐕𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐮 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐕𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐀𝐏𝐆 𝐌𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧✅ On Wednesday, representatives of Vanuatu’s private sector, mostly from the financial industry, including banks, company and trust services providers, and financial dealers, met with a delegation from the Asia Pacific Group on Money Laundering (APG), which is the regional branch of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the global standard-setter on financial regulation. The delegation was composed of Dr. Chris Black, Ms. Caitlyn Ryan, Mr. David Shannon from the APG office in Sydney; Mr. Ian Collins from the U.K. Treasury; and Mr. Chris H. from the U.S. Treasury. They had previously met with various government officials. We were presented with a detailed briefing on the next round of the FATF/APG Mutual Evaluation, set to occur in 2026. While this might seem like the distant future, in the world of regulatory implementation, it's practically around the corner! In the face of new regulatory requirements that will require formidable collaboration to overcome, the private sector unanimously offered its support to both the APG and the Government and agencies. We are committed to upholding the strongest global standards when it comes to combatting money laundering, the financing of terrorism, and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. The APG representatives were adamant that this evaluation will not so much be about enacting new laws and reforming institutions like last time, but will focus on the “effectiveness of implementation.” We must ensure all stakeholders share the same vision and promote regulatory enforcement through the twin pillars of leadership and accountability. Our success will depend on our capacity to work together, between the National Coordination Committee, the FIU, the VFSC, the Reserve Bank, the Office of the Attorney General, the Police, and ourselves in the private sector. At stake are Vanuatu's global reputation, the future of our economy, and the well-being of our people. #vanuatu #financialregulation #AML #compliance
