In recording this album, I was looking for a connection between unsafe environments and abstract ambient music. This can be profound as both can evoke feelings of unease, dislocation and introspection. I myself have experienced these feelings repeatedly over several years while working in highly insecure areas, and where i was sometimes listening to ambient music for relaxation.
Abstract ambient music often creates a soundscape that reflects the unpredictability and tension of an unsafe environment. The use of dissonant tones, abrupt changes and multi-layered textures can evoke feelings of anxiety and insecurity.
The immersive nature of ambient music can create a psychological space that mimics the feeling of being in an unsafe environment. This can lead to a cathartic experience for the listener as they grapple with feelings of vulnerability and fear.
This can lead to a rich exploration of both the fragility of our environment and the resilience of the human spirit.
With the music on this album, I remember those times in unsafe territories, and I wanted to reflect those feelings with my music at the same time,
