  • There are many misconceptions about apprenticeships and technical pathways like T Levels and HTQs. These myths can deter young people from considering these valuable routes. To address this, The Careers & Enterprise Company have introduced a fantastic new suite of resources designed to help Careers Leaders and teaching staff provide parents with up-to-date knowledge about apprenticeship and technical education (ATE) routes. These resources aim to dispel myths and make ATE a part of the conversation. 👇 Read more to discover how these resources can support informed decision-making.

❌ Apprenticeships are only for those who aren't academic ❌ You can't get a degree through an apprenticeship ❌ An apprenticeship isn't a real job ❌ You can’t progress onto university with a T Level These are just some of the misconceptions that still exist around apprenticeships and technical pathways like T Levels and HTQs - if parents and carers believe them to be true, this can be a huge barrier to young people choosing these routes. We are excited to share a new suite of resources designed to support Careers Leaders and teaching staff to upskill parents with up to date knowledge about apprenticeship and technical education (ATE) routes to help tackle some of the misconceptions associated with these pathways and make ATE part of the conversation. National Apprenticeship Week is fast approaching (10-16 Feb) - How are you going to include parents and carers in your #careers activities across the week? ➡️ Explore the resources: https://bit.ly/4i70yQL 💡 Looking for more support with engaging parents and carers? • 🎉 Yesterday, we hosted our second in-person 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 event, providing a fantastic platform to discuss The Careers & Enterprise Company’s Employer Standards. We shared valuable insights from the Employer Insight Report, highlighting what the data reveals about employer engagement. Sharon Nicholls from Berkeley Group Plc showcased the significant business benefits her organisation has gained by adopting the standards - her advocacy was truly inspiring! It was great to see all attendees complete the standards during the event and start exploring the results and resources linked to each one. Employer Standards are a free tool, designed to assess outreach, pinpoint opportunities for growth, and enhance efforts to prepare young people for future success. By adopting these standards, more employers across London can close gaps in outreach and play a pivotal role in shaping a work-ready future generation. 👉 We’re excited to announce two upcoming in-person workshops on 3rd April and 10th July next year. If you’d like to participate and complete the standards for your organisation, we’d love to hear from you! - [email protected] #employerstandards #westlondon #employers #futuresuccess The Careers & Enterprise Company Aarti Jaswal Heena Patel Matthew Carter Sharon Nicholls

  • 👏 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬 – 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐬 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 Thanks to all the participants from West London institutions who attended this event today. A fantastic session hosted by City Hall and the Careers & Enterprise Company. There were some inspiring keynote speakers which kicked off with the Executive Director of Communities and Skills at the Greater London Authority, Tunde Olayinka addressing senior schools’ leaders. A panel discussion was chaired by Education Development Trust’s, Head of Careers Mark De Backer, where we talked about the vital need to collaborate with schools to create and enhance pathways into employment through information, guidance, work experience, and apprenticeship opportunities. Great work is already happening, with the Early Connect pilot helping young people into excellent apprenticeships and providing employers with early access to talented young Londoners. The event also promoted the support available to schools and colleges, focusing on the critical role of enhancing careers provision. Robust career guidance empowers young people in their future work placements and directly benefits employers, helping engaged, prepared, and well-informed young people into the workforce, addressing skills shortages, and creating a pool of talented candidates ready to contribute from day one. The Mayor of London’s Career Hubs are working with schools to develop their careers provision to help them better support young people in taking their best next step. 👉 To find out more about how we can support your career provision in West London, contact us: [email protected] South London Careers Hub Careers Hub East Central London Careers Hub Aarti Jaswal Rachel Bennett Tracy Eve Michelle Sporle The Careers & Enterprise Company Greater London Authority Angela Browne Oli de Botton Nicola Hall Ndidi Edozie-Ansah Ruth Coyle Gatsby Charitable Foundation #CareersExcellence

  • 📣 A heartfelt "𝓽𝓱𝓪𝓷𝓴 𝔂𝓸𝓾" to everyone who made this year’s 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐞 our biggest yet! 🎉 Over 238,000 young people (nationally) shared their perspectives on career readiness and aspirations. Your contributions are shaping the future of careers education. Key highlights from the FSQ report:  🟡 Young people are interested in growth sectors such as construction, digital and health. But some key growth sectors are missing out.   🟡 Young people feel more career ready as they approach key transition points. There are challenges for girls and students on free school meals which quality careers education can mitigate.  🟡 By age 16, young people improve in most work-related skills but rate themselves lower on speaking, listening, leadership and teamwork.
