A huge thank you to Andrew Cooper Dr Adrian Neal and Rhiannon Windsor FCIPD for delivering such a valuable session with the The CIPD in Wales Senior People Professional network. The insights shared and the discussions sparked around improving disciplinary processes were both thought-provoking and inspiring. If you’d like to be part of further conversations on this important topic, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Claire Reardon Annabelle Llanes
One of this month’s highlights was the opportunity to meet with the CIPD Wales’ senior people professional network with colleagues, Dr Adrian Neal and Rhiannon Windsor FCIPD Whilst we’d been invited to provide a session on work being taken forward across NHS Wales to improve the application of our disciplinary policy – we were interested to hear how other organisations run their processes and whether there was anything in the approach we are taking that resonated with attendees. It was great to spend the morning with such an engaged group. And you’ll hear in the video, that there certainly seems to be an interest and an appetite to run disciplinary processes in a better way – one that considers both the needs of the individual, as well as the organisation. Many thanks to Annabelle Llanes, Claire Reardon and Jonathan Smith for the invitation and to attendees who were prepared to be interviewed: Katrina Stewart Assoc CIPD / AMInstILM / Richard Love FCIPD / Lauren Goulder / Nia Court / Matt Davies / Rebecca Cooper FCIPD / Helen Mullens #HumanResources #Disciplinaries #Investigations #CompassionateHR #CompassionateLeadership Sarah Simmonds / Julie Rogers FCIPD / Professor Tracy Daszkiewicz FFPH / David D'Souza

Comment | The Office for National Statistics (ONS) estimated that the number of people on UK payrolls fell by 35,000 to 30.4 million between October and November. The number of vacancies also fell by 31,000 to 818,000 in the three months to November. Commenting, James Cockett, senior labour market economist for the CIPD said: “Employers face tough waters ahead with rising employment costs as a result of the Budget, compounded with a raft of changes in the Employment Rights Bill. “We can expect rising prices and job losses, as firms plan for the next financial year. We urge the UK government not to lose sight of smaller businesses in particular, who are likely to be disproportionately affected by the cumulative impact of these changes, and require more support, advice and guidance in implementing many of the proposals." #Skills | Bolder action from the UK Government is needed to help more young people access opportunities to earn and learn, as new CIPD data shows just 6% of 16-24-year-olds are studying for an #apprenticeship. The research also found that many employers have poor perceptions of young people at work. Two-thirds (64%) said young people often lack important social skills in the workplace, while 71% think they don’t always know how to behave at work.
