"I am a classic geek. I started programming computers in BASIC when I was 8 years-old and spent an unhealthy proportion of my teenage years hunched over a BBC microcomputer. My undergraduate degree is in computer science and I have a PhD in artificial intelligence. Since then, I've spent the last 25 plus years in private and public sector organisations. Part way through my career, I moved across from tech to product: first, as a business analyst and then as a product owner. The thing I enjoy most is being part of a team that delivers a product that people find useful. That’s why the mission of change.nhs.uk is one I’m keen to get involved in." ✏️Tony Heap, Integration Lead, Digital Staff Passport

NHS App hospital appointment features now live in over 100 NHS acute trusts Patients being treated at 96 acute and 5 specialist acute trusts, across 38 ICSs in all regions, can view their hospital referrals and outpatient appointments in the NHS App. 66 of these trusts are also live with a mixture of additional features that let App users: - receive appointment reminders and appointment related notifications - view their appointment letters and supporting information (and select paperless preferences to reduce printed mail) - complete pre-appointment questionnaires. These features are supporting efforts to reduce waiting times and missed appointments across England and are forecast to save the NHS £250 million in 2024/25. 📣📣📣FINAL WEEK! 📣📣📣 Calling all NHS staff who use an electronic patient record (EPR) in their work to share their experience by taking part in the national EPR usability survey. The 📋survey will help trusts to: Measure and track the usability of our EPR systems Compare our performance with other organisations Support and enhance improvement plans by identifying where we can do better On a national level, the survey will also enable NHS England to collate a national view of the factors impacting EPR usability, which will be used to: Identify and scale best practice by EPR and care setting Identify, scale and target funding to address on-going optimisation of EPRs. Please take 8 minutes to have your say now by completing the survey https://lnkd.in/eKBT_mxF by Friday 20 December 2024. “I’ve worked in all sorts of roles including the arts, setting up engagement projects with young people, in child and adult education, and now I work on NHSmail. I do a lot of work around accessibility and that’s really my passion. It’s easy to get caught up in a technical headspace but our aim is to make patients' lives better - all patients’ lives. Accessibility is so much wider and deeper than most of us realise. For example, through volunteering, I’ve seen first-hand the challenges that young people and those from less privileged backgrounds face, and the ways in which they have to adapt. We have to turn that around and adapt to them. That means not being satisfied with merely meeting regulations. It means reaching out to communities to hear their voices and working with and for them. Change.nhs.uk is a great opportunity to champion that way of working.” ✏️Kim Lofthouse, Service Manager and Accessibility Lead
