Happy International Volunteer Day!! Durham University is deeply thankful for our network of alumni volunteers spanning the world. We celebrate their work today and across the whole year. To recognise our volunteers' outstanding commitment, last year we introduced the Alumni Global Impact Award. Sahil Kumar, our Chapter Leader in Delhi, won the first ever award. Professor Jorge Lengler presented it to him on behalf of the University at an event in Delhi last May. Nominations are open for the 2025 Alumni Global Impact Award at https://brnw.ch/21wPd8r

Our Chancellor Dr Fiona Hill was joined by more than 220 University students and staff for a panel discussion to discuss the result of the recent US Presidential Election and its impact domestically and globally. The engaging and thought-provoking panel conversation was led by Professor Christopher Finlay with insights from acclaimed foreign affairs specialist, Dr Hill, and reflections from Dr Tessa Ditonto, Associate Professor in Gender and Politics Durham’s Director of Policy Engagement, Stephen Evans. The event concluded with a meeting of Chancellor Dr Fiona Hill and her namesake, Revd Fiona Hill who is the Chaplain of the Durham’s ‘Hill Colleges’: Collingwood, Grey, Trevelyan and Van Mildert. This event was organised by Lucian Hudson, Director of Advancement, Marketing & Communications, and his Marketing & Communications Team, supported by Event Durham. It followed Fiona’s visit to North Durham Academy in Stanley, UK, where she shared her journey ‘from the coal house to the White House’ with Year 7 and Year 8 pupils.
