This is an absolutely fascinating story about a completed migration away from public cloud and the potential efficiencies that can be gained. Whilst it won't work for everyone and the sums won't always add up, should everyone who needs their own compute for custom services at least acknowledge the option as part of their roadmaps? The second thought being is if you're not doing fin ops in the cloud, how much extra is it costing you than it needs to?

💭 This week one of CRNs Top 100 UK VAR's approached me asking about the Google Cloud (specifically GCP) partner program and it got me thinking (and researching)... Should I be shocked to conclude that GCP is hardly offered as an option? That multi-cloud means AWS and Azure to most. Ingram Micro and Google are working hard to change the story. With all major aquisitions like this its a reminder of what happens when a behemoth purchases a niche product or service that is outside their core competancy. Is it time for planned obsolescence of Hashicorp? Yes, I think so. OpenTofu if you actually like Hashicorp products, or more specifically terraform. But has Terraform really lived up to its IaC pledge? I think not. It's not a write once use anywhere solution. Perhaps its time to take a closer look at Pulumi which has a far more flexible approach and is much less restrictive than the DSL.
