It's disappointing to see the news that the CMA has chosen to renew its contract with AWS – despite currently investigating the impact that hyperscaler anti-competitive practices are having on UK cloud.   In all honesty, it’s a huge blow to all those operating in UK cloud. This could have been a way to promote competition in the UK market and support the challenger and homegrown providers, rather than signing the biggest deal yet with the hyperscaler provider.   I shared my thoughts on the situation with Christine Horton, who explored the impact of agreements, like the UK’s One Government Value Agreement 2.0 (OGVA), have had on public sector IT spending.   There’s an election on the horizon and whoever’s in No.10 this time next year needs to be considering this with some urgency.    Take a look at Christine’s article in Channel Futures here: https://lnkd.in/ek3H4743

But they are still developing products at an incredible pace and quality. From a Product perspective, they are hitting the nail on the head over and over again. Datadog releases things as early as possible as "Beta", "Private Beta" etc. This may frustrate users (as early products are immature), but it actually provides incredible opportunities for feedback. A bit of an observation: There are a lot more instances where Datadog goes past this "understanding platform" idea. It's now moving to be able to take action. The DORA State of DevOps 2024 report is out. Each year's report builds on the last but the guiding principles of high performing software teams remains the same: more frequent deploys and shorter lead times leads to higher organisational performance. As you can expect this year's report (link in comments) has a big section on AI: covering things like trust and burnout as well as code quality and tech debt. There's lots of useful and interesting information in the report (not just about AI) but as always, context is key. Apply these principles thoughtfully and beware of Goodhart's Law.

This compliments the Continuous Integration knowledge from Chapter 7 to help you get your modules into production and your projects deployed, and includes content on both OpenTofu and Terraform. You may remember that I originally planned on having one CI/CD chapter, but it was too hard to fit all that content into a single chapter. Use collaborative tools like email threads, project management platforms, and shared documents to track all feedback and changes." One of my beefs with terraform is it’s trying so hard to be flat. Some of us want very dynamic scripts. But when you create a k8s cluster, form the kubexonfig file, then need to use the kubexonfig file to load in the rest of the parts like ingress, having a depends_on would be nice for providers. I did cheat a little and abuse the variable system to force the provider to wait, but then you run into what about a workspace that will have kubernetes set to false and get a zero count for your k8s module? Then it gets angry because the module output isn’t there. I still like Chef. Chef let me do what I want when I want. Just was bad on creating the underlying infrastructure but great at configuring it once it was up. *shrug* #terraform #kubernetes #k8s #eks #automation #burgerkingmodel

Since we built the #opensource SOCI snapshotter, I have often tried to explain how much faster pods, tasks and applications can launch with SOCI. Vanessa gave me the right answer to that question: "wicked fast". And yes, applications on Amazon ECS with AWS Fargate can use SOCI to deploy and scale out faster.
