🚨 Solar Energy UK calls for 50GW of solar and 30GW of zero-carbon energy storage by 2030! 🚨 In their new manifesto, they urge the next government to publish a roadmap within 100 days to achieve this ambitious target. With current capacity at 20GW solar and 8GW storage, these goals align with the UK's 2035 target of 70GW solar. Overcoming planning inconsistencies and boosting investment are crucial factors. Utility-scale developments for solar and battery storage offer opportunities which the government could support, particularly via the creation of a national target for the technology. Solar Energy UK CEO Chris Hewett emphasised the need to set an energy storage target to facilitate new renewable energy generation technologies. The UK energy industry has entered a period of huge growth with ambitious targets, meaning there will be opportunities at mass for skilled labour. 🌞 The UK Aims for 47 GW of Solar by 2030 The UK’s energy operator, NESO, has released a plan to triple solar power in Great Britain by 2030 – targeting 47 GW. To reach this, the UK will need to install 4.6 GW of solar each year, starting in 2025. Key steps include: Speeding up grid connections by focusing on projects that are ready to go. Boosting battery storage to keep energy available when needed. Growing flexibility in energy use, like smart EV charging and adjusting industrial power needs. UK Government Investments (UKGI) is set to significantly raise the budget for this year's #renewable #energy auction, following calls from industry for more support. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband announced on Wednesday that the budget would be increased to £1.5bn, up by £500m from last year. The majority of the funding will be available to develop #offshore #windpower, which the The Labour Party government says it wants to quadruple by 2030. The extra money has been broadly welcomed by the #renewables industry, but there are warnings that without other changes, any new #projects may not be delivered in time. The #government holds an auction each year to encourage companies to bid to develop #renewable energy projects to supply the #UK grid with #electricity. The scheme is designed to ensure projects get a guaranteed price - known as the strike price - from the government for the electricity they will generate, which it is hoped will enable companies to have the confidence to invest. Last year, developers did not bid for any offshore wind contracts - they argued that the price being offered was too low to make the projects viable.

🌊 The offshore wind industry in the UK and Europe is surging, driven by ambitious climate goals and a push for energy independence. As of 2024, Europe holds over 278 GW of wind capacity, with 35 GW offshore 🌍. The EU’s REPowerEU initiative aims to cut reliance on imported energy, targeting a total wind capacity of 450 GW by 2030 ⚡. The UK has emerged as the leader in global demand for Renewable Energy skillsets, as highlighted in the Global Green Skills Report 2024. From a recruitment perspective, we are seeing significant demand in several key areas: 🔌 Grid Connection: Engineers, Managers and those experienced in Grid applications. ✅ Commissioning: Via Project Management or a Consultancy, experience with HV substations and commissioning. 📈 Whole Lifecycle Project Management: Project Managers, Contract Managers & Consultants. ⚡ Electrical Engineers: Electricians, Site Managers and HV Engineers. These roles are critical in driving forward our onshore and offshore projects, however we've found that many companies struggle to find qualified and experienced people as highlighted in the report. UK's Renewable News The bidding window for the UK's Allocation Round 6 (AR6) auction is now officially open. National Grid ESO is inviting sealed bids from renewable energy developers until 9 August 2024. This year, more than 10GW of offshore wind capacity is eligible to participate in Pot 3, with a substantial £300m boost to the budget, bringing the total to an impressive £1.1bn. Onshore wind and solar will compete in Pot 1, which has a budget of £185m. It's anticipated that 2GW-3GW of capacity will be secured across these technologies through this auction. With the winners set to be announced in early September, the race is on to drive the UK's renewable future forward. Very exciting new from UK Power Networks today as they announce that electricity networks in England and Wales are accelerating grid connection offers for nearly 8GW of renewable energy projects! By using the Technical Limits program, over 200 projects have seen their connection offer dates brought forward by up to a decade, totalling 7.8GW capacity 🤯 This initiative allows projects to connect to lower voltage distribution networks, bypassing the need for reinforcement of the high voltage transmission network. This is a definitely a step in the right direction when looking at reducing the grid connection que and hopefully we will continue to see more solutions like this to get more renewable energy projects connected! 🌍💡 #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #GridConnection #TechnicalLimits #Sustainability #Collaboration

A tidal wave of major news events in the UK and European #renewableenergy landscape today. 🌊 🌏 Andy Hazell joins Piper Maddox to lead our Southern European Renewable Energy offering. We're already very active in the region and Andy allows us to continue to build and develop our capabilities and service offerings. 💨 The new UK Government has decided that building on-shore wind farms might be a good idea after all. By my last count their plan is to treble current output by 2030. 🔥 Global average temperatures have been above the Paris Agreement Target of 1.5C for 12 months in a row.
