Airedale NHS FT postpones Oracle EPR go-live indefinitely - Digital Health Airedale NHS Foundation Trust has indefinitely postponed the go-live of its Oracle Health electronic patient record (EPR) system, initially set for September 2024. This decision aims to address outstanding issues and enhance staff confidence in using the new system. In recent years, the NHS has rapidly evolved with the widespread integration of digital technology. Continuing advancements have seen ICSs, and by extension, ICBs and GP practices leverage these tools in different ways to enhance patient experience, improve access to care, and promote patient-centric approaches. Now, with NHS plans for 2024/25 stating an aim to further “increase digital maturity and ensure a core level of infrastructure, digitisation and skills,” different systems will have their own individual priorities for health tech over the coming 12 months. Digital innovations will be increasingly crucial to reducing pressure on the NHS and improving medication adherence rates and outcomes among the estimated 6.8 million people in the UK living with a health condition that could be appropriate for clinical homecare. This was the message from Ejike Nwokoro MD MPH, Patients Insights and Data Strategy Manager, at Astute client HealthNet Homecare (UK) Ltd in Health Tech Digital. According to a recent NCHA (National Clinical Homecare Association - (NCHA) report, around 31 million people in the UK say they are living with at least one long-term health condition. Ejike explains: “Up to 50% of medications, though, are not taken as prescribed, which has clinical implications for the patient. Previous research has also shown, that wasted medicine costs the NHS some £375 million a year, and the costs to NHS England of non-adherence is over £930 million per year across just five disease areas.” This is where clinical homecare services can deliver some real value, continues Ejike, because they are designed to support treatment initiation and adherence, and are typically aimed at patients with long-term or chronic health conditions.
