Oman invites global bids for Khor Grama marina project MUSCAT: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology is poised to unveil an international tender for the ambitious Khor Grama Project located in the Wilayat of Sur, Al Sharqiyah South Governorate. This venture marks a significant milestone in the Sultanate of Oman’s efforts to bolster its maritime infrastructure and enhance its coastal tourism offerings. The tender process, set to commence with the opening of bids next month, seeks to attract global expertise in designing and supervising the multifaceted development. Interested parties were invited to purchase tender documents starting from August 8, 2024, with a pre-bid clarification deadline set for August 15, 2024. Oman inks $172.5 million in contracts to boost local content MUSCAT: The Ministry of Energy and Minerals has signed contracts worth over $172.5 million as part of the newly launched “Majd” programme. The agreements, inked during the programme’s launch ceremony, cover a range of fields including construction, services and manufacturing, with mandatory provisions for spending with local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and commitments to Omanisation. These contracts reflect Oman’s strategic commitment to boosting local capabilities, reducing reliance on imports and supporting economic diversification. Egypt plans to issue $1.2 billion worth of tenders for public-private partnerships in the fields of water, waste-management, and power. PPPs have played a limited role in attracting investment in recent years. Compare this $1.2 billion figure to the $30 billion Egypt hopes to attract in FDI this financial year and consider that PPP agreements frequently take years to be finalised. The Finance Ministry, which oversees PPP tenders in cooperation with other government ministries, says it hopes to increase their impact on the economy over the coming months and years. The government is currently running on an austerity budget and has cut back on state investment spending, looking to overseas investors to plug the gap. Very happy to announce the launch of our #UAEConsensus report at #PreCOP today https://lnkd.in/dguwG8_A, illustrating the progress achieved since #COP28 in delivering #3xRenewables and doubling of energy efficiency improvements: https://lnkd.in/d-aN2b86 The report finds that we remain off-track in terms of capacity additions for all renewable energy technologies except solar photovoltaics (+346.9 GW added in 2023). Overall, global renewable capacity increased by 14% in 2023 (16.1% was required to remain on track to triple capacity). For context, if we were to continue delivering a 14% increase each year between 2024 and 2030, the gap to the target in 2030 would be around 1.5 TW. This shortfall is equivalent to the total installed renewable capacity of North America, Central America and the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Oceania at end-2023. UK-based firm to invest in Oman's Block 8 mineral concession MUSCAT: London-listed exploration company, Power Metal Resources, has taken a significant step into the Sultanate of Oman by signing a non-binding Heads of Terms (HoT) with Alara Resources and Awtad Copper. This strategic partnership aims to facilitate Power Metal's investment of up to $740,000 to earn a 12.5% stake in the Block 8 mineral concession, located in the Hazm area of northwestern Oman. Alara Resources, an Australia-based mining and exploration firm, is currently focused on expanding its operations in the Middle East. Its flagship project, the Al Wash-hi - Majaza Copper-Gold Project, has positioned Alara as a key player in Oman’s mining sector.
