The McCloud Remedy Statutory Guidance for the LGPS in England and Wales has now been published https://lnkd.in/eshVauPU Highlights include: - Deadline for implementation is 31 August 2025 (for most members) - In determining who qualifies for underpin protection, not only must funds write to members who could qualify for the remedy should they have membership in another LGPS or public service pension scheme, they will also have to re-verify the protection status for some members when they eventually take their benefits. The guidance also provides further information about prioritisation, data collection, payment of compensation and interest, transfers, multiple sets of underpin figures, unpaid additional contributions, and what to do if the person you want to make payment to has passed away. We understand that the next part of the LGA McCloud remedy administrator guide is expected by the end of July (subject to outstanding GAD guidance having been published). This is expected to provide further help for funds revisiting past calculations. In the meantime, there is plenty that administrators can be getting on with, including training, data collection, identifying qualifying members, planning your recalculation exercise and eliminating any backlogs that may prevent you from implementing McCloud in time. The Financial Conduct Authority has published a paper based on research into whether a communication’s timing makes it more likely pension customers would engage with their #pensions. The FCA have undertaken a programme of behavioural research to understand when and how to engage consumers with their pensions and to demonstrate how firms can test communications to find what works. The findings note low engagement with emails and that older customers were more likely to engage overall. We, the Financial Inclusion Commission (FIC), are today excited to welcome the new Labour Government's commitment to a National Financial Inclusion Strategy. This crucial initiative aims to tackle financial exclusion and enhance resilience across the UK. In January, the new Labour Government published its 'Plan for Financial Services,' highlighting some alarming statistics: over 1 million people in the UK lack a bank account, and 14 million have less than £100 in savings. Addressing these critical issues will significantly improve the nation's financial resilience. Today we released a statement that includes a comment from our Chair, Chris Pond: “The extent of financial exclusion is a source of shame for a country that prides itself on being a global leader in financial services. We cannot go on with a two-track system with a globally successful financial services sector on one hand, but millions of people who cannot access basic products and services on the other”. We need a comprehensive strategy to ensure everyone has access to essential financial services, fostering #InclusiveGrowth. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has taken a step towards making universal credit #UC #data available in real time to #localgov and other organisations to support groups of #vulnerable people - it has agreed a 2yr, £2m contract with Capgemini to work on the #discovery and #alpha stages of a project to develop #APIs and other means of extracting relevant data. This derives from a DWP commitment three years ago that it would make data available to councils so they could identify cohorts of vulnerability and make more targeted interventions to support people. It is considering the possibility of a standalone solution for local authorities, but it also in discussions with iStandUK, the local government standards body that runs the #SAVVI (Scalable Approach to Vulnerability via Interoperability) programme. SAVVI is aiming for a nationally accepted #standard for information governance, which includes data sharing agreements, and interoperable technical standards for the creation of a data mesh. https://lnkd.in/e2juBs6N
