HMRC: Hyperscale PaaS for Hyperscale Performance. HMRC offers an exemplar blueprint for a Platform Architecture, and how it can enable rapid digital service innovation at hyperscale levels. HMRC's Multi-channel Digital Tax Platform (MDTP) employs Continuous Delivery at scale, operating a cloud platform for over 130 user-facing applications powered by over 1000 microservices. The platform delivered financial support to more than 12 million employed and self-employed workers during the pandemic, processing 67,000 job claims within half an hour and handling 440,000 applications for government grants on the first day of its operation. Progress Update 🏥 As promised, I'm sharing our progress with West London NHS. After conducting a discovery, here's what we've uncovered: The Situation: - 📈 Typical NHS setup: Large team of analysts covering various areas - 🚧 Small engineering team (just 5 people!) supplying the data platform - 📺 Engineers also handle visualisation workload The Opportunity: - Analysts are keen to take on dashboard development - a positive sign! Quick Fix? - Moving reporting workload from engineers to analysts seems like an easy solution. The Consulting Company Trap: - What would a typical consultancy do? Push everything to the cloud, claiming it'll magically solve all problems! 🤦‍♂️ Our Approach: - 💡 Laying new tarmac doesn't fix a bottleneck. Removing the constraint does! Team Topologies for breakfast, anyone?🙂. Last week, Spectrum IT Recruitment invited me to introduce some of their awesome clients to new ways of thinking about how they structure their software teams. The session started at 8:30 am with a great breakfast selection put on by our hosts. Then we kicked off a 90-minute section introducing some key concepts and quickly got people hands-on trying to solve a real-world problem using the Team Topologies modelling shapes.
