I made a discovery! (And now I will use Alex Hormozis' help to take it home) For all of those who follow me So for a long time, I have been trying to discover what my specialisation is And its not the medical field (that was a try) It isn't wordpress development (as everyone is doing this) It isn't e-commerce development (as most people can do this themselves) I've always been the type of person that its either I am 100% in, or not in at all And when my hearts not into something, I cannot even force myself to do it And I will most likely fail miserably at it And no-one can convince me to do it either But then when I do enjoy something And become passionate about it I tend to excel at it. Now, I have been working on a platform for the last 6 months for a client And I feel that if something is my specialisation, it would be that Ill tell you why..... I have always had a passion for building things for other people.... Platforms like Uber, Netflix and Airbnb revolutionise industries and create jobs... Now when I fully immersed myself into Software Engineering, the goal was to build software that creates jobs, brings more people onboard and causes mass disruption throughout industries And this sort of thing makes me work out of hours to make sure I am one of the best at this But as Alex Hormozi says... When you want to do something relatively new... Give the first 5 clients a price below market rate... My first was a uber-like software for recovery drivers which I built successfully My second was a social media mobile app called Progressive which would link students and professionals in one local area (I got the idea from a youngster I had witnessed knocking on doors to find a professional to give him work experience when he was in high school) And now the latest platform that I have managed for watercrafts. What pages to "build links" to? Pages you'd expect to get links. Your 'best microwave for a caravan' post won't attract many links. Your "100 Kitchen Organisation Hacks" post will get lots. Internal link to your money pages.

A huge shift is coming for websites The market with all the web builders are great but it had me thinking. Reality is the only platform allowing high-end performance is Wordpress. It’s the only platform where you decide as a business the control of hosting. We are now in a era were features don’t matter For example clickfunnels, I can do everything in Wordpress Shopify I can build a e-commerce store in Wordpress So it’s not about platforms having “unique features” but now it’s about how the core of the back end works - the hosting And the only platform that allows you to decide the level of hosting is Wordpress Therefore, with speed alone you can take over just with a host upgrade from shared to dedicated… Just think why are the biggest companies using Wordpress as a headless CMS - it’s about full control capability From, the front end to the backend to the core of the backend Just type on google does X (insert website builder I.e Webflow) use shared hosting? The result is 👀

Draftboard v1: A leaky bucket & a broken flywheel I wrote a few days ago about how the length of our feedback loop was a real business killer. But given enough time, would it have actually worked? No. Because we had an even bigger problem: Draftboard referrals weren't getting hired. Even though we were sending super high quality candidates (20% got interviews), those candidates weren't converting into new hires. This was really baffling at first: shouldn't initial quality (read: first interviews) be a leading indicator? Given enough time, shouldn't more and more of those high quality candidates covert into newly hired employees? This is where we learned the hard lesson that every recruiter out there already knew, and that we were naive enough to believe we could change: the chances that even a high quality candidate gets hired are incredibly small. Why? For three interdependent reasons: 1. A new hire is a big risk - time, money, opportunity cost - so the vetting process is necessarily intense 2. This process therefore has many stages, and each stage is creates a more loss-y conversion funnel (resume screen, interviews, take home projects, presentations, background & reference checks, etc) 3. The purpose of an interview process is usually to minimize risk rather than maximize return, so companies always have their fingers on the 'reject' trigger - there is much more of a bias to reject someone than to hire him All of these contribute to a world where even great candidates have a low chance of being hired. This is a problem for us two-fold: First, our pricing model was that we earn 20% of every referral bonus. So if there are no referrals bonuses, then there's no revenue. Second - and much, much more important - was that our scouts weren't making money. If we had built a platform where our scouts were crushing it but we weren't generating enough money, then we would have been able to find some way to solve that (I'm highly confident of that at least). But our scouts weren't making placements, and through no fault of their own. When they started with us they would gush about how fantastic the product was and how much they liked it, but after making 20, 30, 50 referrals without earning a bonus, even those ardent advocates ask themselves a simple question: Why am I still doing this? What else could I be doing with my time? Is it worth my effort to share Draftboard links? And the obvious answer is no, it wasn't worth their time. The whole premise of Draftboard was that incentives drive behavior. So if the incentives are not materializing, then neither will the behavior we desire (more referrals). This is what ultimately doomed us, because scouts would start super excited and make dozens of referrals, only to churn a month later because they saw no success. Sometimes you encounter a problem you can't solve - this was ours. But without recognizing it when we did, there would be no Draftboard v2...

There’s a lot of posts recently about the email agency space being commoditized. We're seeing email agency founders saying they are taking a step back to focus on only a few clients at a time. This is a polite way of saying that the market is saturated and we're in a bubble. I've had more than a few reach out and ask me what else they should look into if they have to pivot. In 2018-2019 I was talking to a lot of email marketers. The space was unsophisticated, raw, inexperienced. Then the pandemic happened, there wasn't enough email marketers to go around, all of a sudden everyone needed to be selling online and there was a gap in roles to be filled. That demand drove prices to unsustainable rates. The majority being spent on welcome and abandon cart flows. $6,000, $8,000, $12,000 etc. for email flows. Then upwards of $500+ per individual email creation. None of this was ever going to be sustainable. Small brands wouldn't be able to afford those prices when things returned to normal. Large brands would start really questioning the actual value of their agencies. The truth is if brands actually knew the real macro level statistics behind email they would automate it, save the fees, and actually cull their bloated lists to maintain deliverability. The attribution in email has been for a long time 100% fake. When 75% of sales from popup sign ups happen in less than a day, it wasn’t the welcome series driving that revenue. Abandon carts have the majority of people purchase before the 3 hour gap of you sending the automated email, there’s nothing magical about that email that causes the sale of someone who was high intent and got sidetracked or just held off at the moment. When 85% of your revenue from campaigns comes from people that have already purchased. I could go on about how well done product pages with assets essentially can replace the need for email asset creation. I wrote that if you build a segment that hasn’t purchased ever and signed up more than 45 days ago you’d get very little sales out of them beyond a massive discount. Can you get the above segment to hand you over money without a discount? That’s the test of whether or not your email is working. The truth is, most email marketers are babysitting a list and just keeping it alive making sure it doesn’t stick any forks in outlets. It really boils down to consistency. Now I’ve also been talking to email agencies for the last 4+ years about the importance of data collection. We're starting to hear more about zero party data as agencies look for a way to differentiate themselves, but we're also getting to the point of potentially too little too late. Data collection + ai automation + defined strategy will outperform most agencies in the long run at 1/10th the cost. This is what I see happening and fast. #ecommerce #emailmarketing #data

If Shopify licensed their ENTIRE software stack/infra for 5 years - giving you the ability to launch your own Shopify-type platform - how much would you be prepared to pay? The only caveat would be any enhancements you made in that period would become the property of Shopify once your licence was up for renewal. Payment for such a licence would be upfront. Your tools get older and some don't age well for your needs. I recommend an annual review of each of your digital tools to check they are still as useful and safe as they were when you chose them. Speculative prefetch and prerender can significantly improve website performance, but choosing the right approach matters! ⚡️ Thew new speculation rules API can be used to instruct the browser to prefetch or even prerender future navigations. When a visitor navigates to an already prefetched page this page is loaded instantly from the prefetch cache (with a TTFB of around 0ms). Prerender promises to do even better (by also rendering the next page in an invisible tab). Sound awesome right? It is! But will these speculation rules outperform older techniques that rely on JavaScript to prefetch pages? An A/B test on my page showed that: - Speculation rules outperform no speculation at all. ✅ - Prefetch seems to do slightly better then prerendering (because of the associated higher costs of prerendering) - Custom JavaScript based prefetching of the future navigation still beats speculation rules (because JavaScript prefetching offers much more flexibility). Take-aways Even though the AB test was only done on a few sites it still shows some interesting data: - Both speculation rules and JavaScript based prefetching are awesome and you should probably implement one of those! - Depending on your page prerender might not be the best options (for large sites with many links prefetching might be more cost effective) - Speculation rules offered too little control to be more effective then custom prefetch links. Let's hope this changes in the near future!

Top tip: When choosing what stack to build your website on (or anything for that matter!) don’t pick something weird. When we rebuilt our site a few years ago we stuck with a fairly geeky static site generator (Jekyll) because I knew it fairly well. It’s been a complete headache. - Hard to find freelancers developers / designers familiar with it - Major barriers to non technical folks editing  - Only rudimentary Content Management Systems available What’s your org using now? What would you choose if you were going back to market?

Sure a few folk will agree with me here: modern B2B SaaS companies are held to higher standards than their predecessors back in 2010. User expectations have increased as time has gone on—totally fair, as software has become easier to build 🤷‍♂️ That said, nearly every embedded analytics tools still force SaaS companies to embed with an iFrame. Considering these are user-facing, the repercussions are severe, ranging from latency issues to having next to zero control over user or product experience. Some food for thought for those considering an incumbent embedded analytics solution in our latest post. If you're not a React user and are interested in trying Vizzly, don't worry btw. We support Angular, Vue, and Svelte as well.
