Mindset Practice is called Mindset Practice for a reason because although our #growthmindset tools, #psychometrics and #programmes focus on embedding learning, it is putting that learning into practice after a workshop that really means change is transformational! It also means that participants do not have to understand complicated leadership models, strategic approaches or specific techniques to make lasting and impactful change. They just need to understand what a mindset of Growth and Survival means for them and then how to manage that pattern more effectively. Leaders recognise that #transparency and #vulnerability can be challenging - but they are essential for building real trust with your teams and other stakeholders. When we are open about both wins and the hurdles along the way, we set the stage for others to do the same. Creating an environment where people feel safe to share challenges is powerful. Tools like regular feedback loops help. One method I’ve seen work well in my practice is the ‘Start-Stop-Continue’ framework for feedback. Start initiating practices that can improve performance. Stop counterproductive or unhelpful behaviours. Continue with and acknowledge what is working. THE MYTHS OF PSYCHOLOGICAL SAFETY Psychological safety has become a buzzword in organisational development, often touted as a key ingredient for innovation, collaboration, and employee well-being. The concept, popularised by Harvard Business School professor Amy Edmondson, refers to an environment where individuals feel safe to take interpersonal risks such as sharing ideas, asking questions, or admitting mistakes, without fear of humiliation or retribution. However, as the term gains traction, misconceptions about what psychological safety entails have emerged, sometimes leading to unintended consequences. To foster a truly safe and high-performing environment, it’s essential to debunk these myths and educate employees on the purpose and practical implementation of psychological safety. Psychological safety DOESN’T equate to maintaining a comfortable, conflict-free environment. Psychological Safety ISN’T about being nice. Psychological safety ISN’T about lowering standards and discouraging accountability. Psychological safety ISN’T a natural byproduct of hiring “the right people” or maintaining a friendly workplace. Debunking these myths isn’t an invitation for leaders, managers or coworkers to be arseholes, but rather an opportunity for organisations to create environments where employees feel empowered to take risks, innovate, and grow together. And it will always be contextual to the external countries or cultures in which your organisation resides. Leaders can explore whether this is embedded in the culture and, if not, how they can do so through messaging, behaviours, coaching, and training.

Perfect timing on World Menopause Day, that our article is published on the impact of menopause on coaches in the new edition of Coaching Perspectives. Earlier this year, together with Yvonne Inglis, we conducted research to start to quantify the impact of peri/menopause on coaches - with a large cohort self-employed and between a certain age bracket. So pleased to contribute to raising awareness of this topic - not just from a client focus for coaches, but to bring a coach focus for Coaches and Supervisors. The research highlighted and confirmed: ✨ Perimenopause and menopause can have a profound impact on mental as well as physiological health. ✨The key and most common symptoms affecting coaches: brain fog, low motivation, sleep difficulties, memory problems, decreased confidence and anxiety. ✨ The important role of supervisors in resourcing coaches in the context of capacity and self care. ✨The important role of coaching bodies in supporting, informing and bringing dialogue forward. ✨The significant impact on running a coaching business while navigating peri/menopause. ✨The positive impact on coaching relationships, particularly with female clients experiencing similar challenges. Increased empathy, understanding, and self-compassion were noted as key benefits that have enhanced the coaching experience. Thank you to all respondents - we are delighted to share the findings.
