Your team is struggling with language barriers. How can you improve collaboration effectively?
I'd love to add here the perspective of 'check what you've said has been heard'. If you're sharing a lot of information, or having a lengthy discussion as a group, there could be someone who isn't able to follow and therefore contribute. Aside from actively inviting contributions, it's worthwhile recapping at the end of the meeting what the key takeaways were. Like so many great suggestions from my peers, use simple language to do that, or even a different format, such as text. Then, explicitly make the space for questions that help to clarify. This is especially key if you're having a difficult conversation with someone where there are language barriers. Nerves cause many people to waffle and that might cloud your overall message.

Activities and Societies: Senior Student, French mentor
As extra curricular to my A-Levels, I acted as Senior Student to a senior member of staff, which involved preparing and delivering presentations on his behalf, as well as organising and running events for lower year groups. I also mentored French to first-year students who were new to the subject.

Mencap is the leading voice of learning disability. Everything they do is about valuing and supporting people with a learning disability, along with their families and carers.
This weekend role involved organising activities and events for disabled children and generally looking after them on a one-to-one basis.

Investigating the effect of personality management on organisation performance

Their project uses information from a range of companies that use different levels of focus on the individual. It investigates such levels alongside organisational performance measures to identify a correlation. Practical implications may affect the way companies consider individual traits at job selection, in order to identify person-organisation, or person-job fit.

UBS Global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Ambassador (Program manager)

I created the DE&I Ambassador Program to empower culture champions across the bank. I created a training program that has equipped them to have conversations with people about their identity and truly be able to advocate for them where needed. With the goal of creating a workplace where all our people feel safe and supported, we trained over 320 global DE&I Ambassadors within the first 12 months.

- PresentThe SpeakUp network delivers four or more events a year to employees, with a target audience of those seeking to improve their communication, presentation or networking skills. As committee chair, I am responsible for building and maintaining an active committee base, as well as managing events, from idea inception to identifying and budgeting for a speaker, marketing to attendees and then logistics around the event execution.
