Thank you Dr Megan Ronayne for the nomination to talk about #MindTheSkillsGap. #AdvancedEngineering have created this campaign to amplify efforts in the #engineering and #manufacturing sectors to bridge the skills gap. And they have asked for our support in sharing our thoughts on where we think the skills gaps are. In the current frenzy around Artificial Intelligence, let's not forget the other AI that’s equally crucial to our progress – #Allyship and #Inclusion. In our journey to bridge the skills gap, it's imperative to recognise the role of allyship. We all possess a set of privileges, even those of us from ethnic minorities or other underrepresented groups. These privileges, however, are not a point of shame or apology. Instead, they are tools we can use to uplift those who lack them. Whether it's white colleagues championing their non-white peers, or men advocating for women, allyship is simply about using our advantages to create a more equitable world for all. Inclusion, on the other hand, is a deliberate and active choice. It doesn’t happen by accident or passive intention. Silence is not an option. I believe inaction perpetuates the non-inclusive behaviours and cultures we seek to dismantle. It's not enough to simply claim, “I am not sexist or racist.” (see https://lnkd.in/eUkNqBHW for more on this). We must all be activists in this space, consciously working towards a #culture where behaviours and actions drive good outcomes. 🔄 Culture → Behaviors → Actions → Outcomes 🔄 My response to being asked to post is a reminder that closing the skills gap in engineering requires more than just technical solutions. Attracting diverse talent is fundamental to our success. The #MindTheSkillsGap campaign by Advanced Engineering UK highlights this need. With women representing nearly half of the UK's workforce but only 26% of the manufacturing sector, and earning 17% less than their male counterparts, it’s clear we have work to do (Thanks, Megan for the stats). Let's continue to push for progress. Let's be the allies and #inclusiveleaders our industries need and deserve. Together, we can bridge not just the skills gap, but also the gaps in #equity and #representation. I nominate Jennifer Perryman Assoc. ROAM wins 10-year DRF Luftrettung digital records management contract GAMIT Ltd (an AMAC Aerospace Company) based in Stansted, UK has been awarded a long-term contract to digitize the technical records of DRF Luftrettung’s fleet using the aerospace industry leading software produced by GAMIT called ROAM (Records Online Asset Management) which is digital records management solution. DRF Luftrettung will utilize ROAM to further modernize its operations and seamlessly manage the technical documentation generated by its fleet, using ROAM’s unique functions and integrations to monitor & manage airworthiness compliances. We recently undertook a case study based upon an open problem statement: the 'steam boiler' set by Abrial in 1996. Using all of the D-RisQ tools, some of which are late stage prototypes, we generated and verified the artefacts throughout the software lifecycle as well as some interesting metrics. We showed at the level of system requirements that properties we wanted have hold (always) held and properties that we didn't want to happen (ever) were present before going into the formal methods based software development (software requirements, design, code, compile). For example, we need to be sure that when we want to stop the system, it correctly stops. In today's Aerospace and Defence (A&D) industry, sustainability is one of the most critical challenges that must be addressed. This year's Farnborough International Airshow (FIA) provided an excellent platform to discuss the approaches the industry can take to address this. At the event, our A&D Leader, Lee Annecchino, moderated a session about "Achieving Net Zero", and other industry experts discussed topics such as "Decarbonising Civil Aviation" and "Solar Airships". These sessions provided us with valuable food for thought about the role of technological innovation in shaping the future of sustainable travel. To turn this vision into reality, all industry players must embrace the circular economy and implement clear strategies for driving sustainability across the entire A&D ecosystem: from product design and SAF to creating greener supply chains and extending the lifecycle of aircraft components. Is the UK's future AI? AI is here to stay. To be competitive and outcompete in the future, UK organizations and individuals alike need to get familiar with AI and consider the impacts. The word is in the midst of a industrial revolution. AI is increasingly being integrated within radiography and radiographers to offer better detection of illness. AI technology is changing work, our economies, and society as we know it. We do know that these seven technologies shall play a big role. 1. Artificial intelligence: a machine’s ability to perform some cognitive functions we usually associate with human minds. 2. Generative artificial intelligence (AI) describes algorithms, like ChatGPT, that can be used to create new content, including audio, code, images, text, simulations, and videos. 3. Artificial general intelligence (AGI) is a theoretical AI system with capabilities that rival those of a human. Many think this is decades away. 4. Deep learning: a type of machine learning that is more capable, autonomous, and accurate than traditional machine learning. 5. Prompt engineering: the practice of designing inputs for AI tools that will produce optimal outputs. 6.  Machine learning: artificial intelligence that is able to learn without explicit programming by a human. 7. Tokenization: process of creating a digital representation of a real thing. Tokenization can be used to protect sensitive data or to efficiently process large amounts of data. AI could add $4.4 trillion to the global economy. Many people think of Tesla as an American multinational automotive and clean energy company. What if they are considered as a robotics and AI business, designing autonomous, A to B delivery systems. How much is that market worth a year ? The UK needs the government and industry to do more to develop and implement AI in the UK. Research has revealed a gap between the AI ambitions of businesses in the UK and their actual readiness to implement artificial intelligence.

The Aerospace Technology Institute (#ATI) has released its comprehensive May 2024 report detailing the strides being made by the Hydrogen Capability Network (#HCN) towards advancing liquid hydrogen (#LH2) technologies. 🌍 As we aim for zero-carbon aviation, the HCN is leading the charge, leveraging findings from ATI's FlyZero project which identifies LH2 as the most promising fuel source for a sustainable aerospace future. Key highlights from the report include: 🔹Test Infrastructure: Plans to establish medium-scale LH2 test hubs across the UK to meet the sector's testing demands. 🔹Research Initiatives: The launch of the Cryogenic Hydrogen Materials Testing Standards (#CHyMES) to foster product design and certification. 🔹Skill Development: Initiatives to bridge the skills gap in cryogenics and #LH2 systems, ensuring a well-equipped workforce ready to tackle future challenges. 💡 The report outlines both immediate actions and long-term strategies, aiming to position the UK as a world leader in hydrogen technology for aerospace.
