Cool lunchtime session with the team at ESET in Bournemouth yesterday talking about improving ways of working to improve performance. 💪 Amongst other things, we talked about effective timeboxing and how it can increase productivity. I'm sure lots of people do this already but there are plenty that don't. Timeboxing forces people to allocate specific time periods (like a box) to specific activities on their calendars. These are the move the needle-type activities: the stuff they know they should be doing more of (but for whatever reason, aren’t). Gatekeepers are the WORST ‘Sorry John is in a meeting’ ‘Sorry John doesn’t take calls like this’ ‘Sorry John wouldn’t be interested in this’ If you hear this on your cold calls you have done it wrong ❌ You have given too much away! The East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire) courtesy of Richard Blackmore provides members with the opportunity to input and feedback to bodies that shape the future of work. Yesterday was one such occasion when a bevvy of business owners and stakeholders met representatives from the Low Pay Commission. The Low Pay Commission is an independent body that advises the government about the National Living Wage and the National Minimum Wage. It is engaging with stakeholders up and down the UK prior to publishing its recommendations for the 2025 NLW rates later this year. Just before the call, the new government issued the LPC with its remit, which included that it does not drop below two-thirds of UK median earnings for workers aged 21 and over, a recognised measure of low hourly pay. Based on the LPC's current projections, the NLW would need to increase circa 5% in April 2025 to maintain this. Significantly below the two back-to-back 10% increases, but still above inflationary pay increases. It is important for UK employers to start thinking about this now, especially SMEs. Even with inflation at 2%, they should factor 5% into their pay modelling assumptions. #policy #planning #payassumptions
