How can it be? 🤯 Last week I spoke with 4 CDOs who are hiring at the 'Head of' level Once again, they're struggling and in some instances these roles have been sat with Internal TA, RPO or PSL partners for over 5 months In a world where there are more people at that level on the market than anywhere else It really shouldn't be taking anywhere near that long to fill these type of roles We're seeing the usual story play out... They're getting lots of applicants, having plenty of conversations but they're just not the right people A couple of considerations: 1) Relying on adverts will very rarely bring you success - in fact it often serves as more as distraction 2) If you have partners that don't understand the nuances of the D&A space it's almost impossible to decipher what titles, roles and responsibilities mean in the context of different organisations A 'Head of Data' means 100 different things across the industry Either way, as Data Leaders, there's no reason you should ever be struggling with identification of talent after 5 months 🤯

📉 Sept Recruitment Update: Key Insights from the KPMG/REC Report 📉 The latest KPMG/REC Report on Jobs highlights ongoing challenges in the UK labour market: Declining Appointments: There has been a continued decrease in permanent staff placements, marking two years of downturns. September saw a slightly softer contraction compared to the record decline in August, as companies remain cautious amid uncertainties surrounding government policy ahead of the upcoming Budget. Softening Pay Inflation: Despite ongoing reports of candidate shortages, permanent pay growth has eased for the third consecutive month, hitting its lowest point since February 2021. Increased candidate availability and reduced demand are contributing to this trend. Temporary rates also dipped slightly. Falling Vacancies: Staff vacancies have decreased for the eleventh month in a row, with the pace of contraction accelerating to the steepest since March. Both permanent and temporary vacancies have seen declines. Rising Staff Availability: With increased redundancies and lower demand, the availability of candidates to fill positions has significantly increased, though growth has eased slightly from earlier months. We're yet to see the expected new-government bounce so hopefully some clarity following this months budget will see the market start to move in the right direction. Its not all negative, there are still some really interesting perm and contract opportunities available in the market.

Challenging times. 😟 Nearly half of LGBTQ+ individuals in the UK workforce have faced discrimination at work. What's even more concerning is that for many, it hasn't improved over the years. We know we need to do more.
