The Rise Of Salesforce Consultancies. With June coming to an end, it's time to reflect on the first half of the year and what a start it has been for Salesforce Boutique Partners. I have been working exclusively with some of the hottest Salesforce partners in the UK who have anywhere from 10 to 40 members of the team, but their teams are filled with people who come from a larger partner background. Why is it that people are moving on from the larger consultancies to the boutiques? For me, I have three clear reasons why. ◾ Progression Opportunities: The opportunity to work in a smaller less corporate company often offers quicker routes of career progression. ◾ More Responsibility: The projects you will be working on are a lot smaller and quicker turn around so often you would be moving from being in a team of 20 on a project to sometimes being the only person. ◾ Learning Opportunities: Sometimes sitting next to the boss is the best way to progress (Promise I'm not saying that as I'm currently sitting next to Lewis Steadman) You will learn from someone who has done it all in a lot of different environments. Salesforce are moving more products to usage-based pricing!!! The timing of this is so strange, as I was speaking to a CTA about this just 3 days ago. We were diving into how so many SF customers have far too many Salesforce licenses, and how they had implemented a License Sharing Feature that allowed them to reduce their number of licenses by over 50%. I'm certain this will get real traction, so excited to see how quickly it picks up! It's time to get the popcorn out! I do love a good Apex is better than Flow... discussion 😆. But Salesforce has always lived in this odd juxtaposition between business people wanting to get s**t done and IT. IMO, It all comes down to the balance between speed to value and tech debt. But with Flows, are we sleepwalking into a tech debt nightmare? IMO, the tooling and the platform will continue to evolve, hopefully keeping big tech debt at bay... What are your thoughts? ☀ ☀ HAPPY FRIDAY SALESFORCE FRIENDS - HERE'S A BREAKDOWN OF THE ROLES I RECRUITED IN 2023/2024 FY ☀ ☀ You'll notice from the graphs below, last year I seen a significant increase in hiring for Salesforce Administrators, Salesforce Functional Consultants and the re-rise of the "Salesforce Platform Owner / Manager" type role. A few interesting themes: 💡 Small - Mid size companies reaching out to hire an Administrator or Platform owner to join their business and "own" the Salesforce solution. Usually to work in partnership with their Salesforce Implementation partner. 💡 Significant decrease in Salesforce Developer recruitment this year, this may be down to the lack of hiring in larger enterprise companies (who are big enough to have / need onshore development teams). It also may just be down to the companies I've worked with this year. Has anyone else seen the same theme? 💡 Despite there being alot of commentary on how many applications there are to direct adverts, especially for Salesforce Administration roles - the majority of the Salesforce Administrators that I've placed have been from companies that have tried to hire directly. They either were overwhelmed with too many applications that a simple 1 or 2 qualified CVs from me were enough to solve their problem OR the vast amount of people who had applied for their roles were not at the right level they were expecting, therefore again, engaging me to send 1 or 2 qualified candidates was easier for them to make hiring decisions. Other interesting stats: 29.4% placements were with Salesforce Partners 70.6% placements were with Salesforce Customers (End users) 58.8% Placements were Permanent 41.2% Placements were Contract (slight drop from 45.5% the year before) Are there any other themes people have seen over the last year? Will this year be a return to seeing more Development roles? Will companies continue to invest in their internal Salesforce teams? The last 3 months have flown by (like the rest of the year) but we have just released our Q4 Salary and Rate Card for the UK Salesforce Market! We've seen contract PM rates drop very slightly once again, closing the gap on the 'range' paid for PM's at the moment. This year feels a little slower when it comes to decision making and I think that's had an impact on how many projects we've had kick off and therefore how many Project Managers are available in the market - which usually brings prices down. BA's seem to be commanding a slightly higher day rate and perm salary compared to earlier in the year, based on what we've found. There's HUGE opportunity out there in the Salesforce ecosystem at the moment, you just have to know where to look ⬇ It's no secret that the last 12 months has been one of the most challenging when it comes to identifying new opportunities. But, off the back of some really interesting conversations last week, it's clear that there is ABSOLUTELY still plenty of appetite for specialist Salesforce talent. Speaking with a variety of leaders across both Partners & End-Users in the UK & US, here's a few key talking points: ➡ Reduced spend from Customers on Salesforce partners due to macroeconomic data has impacted revenue, which could result in some layoffs over the course of 2024. ➡ Due to lack of resource capability & depth for SOME Salesforce partners, and poor management of expectations, they have under-delivered for their customers. As a result, there has been a huge push from Customers to understand the depth of resources a Partner has BEFORE signing off on their partnership together. ➡ As a result, we have seen a big push from customers to enhance their internal CoE's, and scale their internal Salesforce capabilities, rather than relying on external SIs. This certainly presents some exciting new opportunities: ➡ Due to competitor's underperformance, specialist Salesforce partners can further grow their client portfolio by identifying these pain points, optimizing their service offering for their given verticals, and ensuring that their process is perfectly aligned to their target clients, allowing them to deliver true value. ➡ Specialist Salesforce partners can further establish themselves as the leader in their given vertical by identifying the BEST specialist talent in the ecosystem, and ensuring they have the resource capability to deliver these roadmaps. ➡ It also means that customers can increase their internal Salesforce capabilities and create an ecosystem-leading CoE, reducing their spend on SI Partners and maximising their ROI from the platform, whilst making sure they have the capability to continuously scale.
