The results of our industry-leading pilot with Pay.UK have shown huge potential – our AI technology successfully identified over 54% of fraud on faster payment transactions beyond those identified by the banks’ sophisticated fraud prevention systems. With almost £600m lost to authorised scams and unauthorised bank fraud in 2022, our technology has the potential to save the UK over £330m a year by drastically reducing the losses to fraudsters each year. We have already reduced card payment fraud to historic lows and are now bringing our AI capabilities to fight fraud on faster payments before it happens - keeping people and businesses safe from scammers is the biggest priority for Visa. One of the questions that recurs within organisations is: Who is the competition and What should we be doing to overcome them to win customers over? This is arguably the wrong question to ask since getting overly obsessed over competitive offerings and chasing taillights may lead you to a suboptimal outcome. Now at Possible the outstanding “AI at Speed” panel discussion with Daniel Vieira, Head of Customer Intelligence & Analytics at Jerónimo Martins, Gareth Owen, Head of Data Platforms at TSB Bank, Dr. Chris Hillman, Senior Director, Data Science and Martin Willcox, Senior Vice President of worldwide Sales Analytics both with Teradata. How are getting our clients up to speed with AI? Q: How does successful AI look like? Chris: “A key question is not about that we can predict the future with AI, the question is more “What are you going to do if I give you the answer?” An answer we often hear: “Well, I don’t know and that’s also not my job”. Tip: Begin with the answer in mind and what the business is going to do with it (Impact?). Q: Where are we after this initial big AI hype? What changed over the past 2 years? Daniel: “For us - being Jerónimo Martins a retailer - it is always about affecting positively either the bottom or the top line - spending less or selling more or a combination of both. Key success factor here: Get the models you develop, train and test into production soon to get business value out of AI.” Q: GenAI and experience with LLM’s? Daniel: “We are testing and piloting this with our contact center for our stores creating an assistant to respond to customer inquiries. We are using agentic AI through the prompting and dialogue process. Looks very promising and we will be soon able to expose this AI assistant to our clients. To make this accurate it is key to define very simple tasks for each agent.” Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication also here. Q: Investment and ROI - Are you really getting return out of your investments in your AI initiatives? Daniel: “There is.
