Today, I came across an insightful article by Amritansh Raghav that delves into the ethical challenges posed by AI in decision-making. Let's dive in! 📚 The article highlights the immense potential of AI in aiding drug discovery, revolutionizing healthcare diagnostics, and driving societal progress. These ethical challenges demand our attention and collective effort. 💪 One of the main concerns discussed is the issue of bias in AI algorithms. Vinod Khosla's TED Talk on "12 Predictions for the Future of Technology" is a must-watch for anyone interested in the potential of emerging technologies to transform our world. As a renowned venture capitalist and technology optimist, Vinod Khosla outlines a bold, exciting, and thought-provoking vision. Some of the key takeaways that resonated with me: - Thanks to AI, Expertise will become nearly free and widely accessible. Khosla envisions a world where everyone can access virtual doctors, tutors, and experts across domains at minimal cost. This democratization of knowledge could be genuinely transformative. - Labor will be largely automated, with billions of robots doing more work than all human labor today. #Psychomatics: a new frontier in understanding #AI https://lnkd.in/g_Ubz4ii Psychomatics is derived from the fusion of "psychology" and "informatics" to provide a deeper understanding of the similarities and differences in their cognitive processes. Humans possess conscious intentions, self-awareness and the ability to make deliberate choices. LLMs, while capable of producing coherent and seemingly purposeful responses, lack purposeful responses, lack true consciousness or internal motivations. Their outputs are fundamentally reactive, based on patterns in their training data and the prompts they receive. Humans can use imagination and combine existing knowledge in unique ways to entirely new ideas and meanings.

The article (with this post), a vision really, is a direct attribution to the work that has gone in to create Project Indus, ground-up and in house over the past year at Tech Mahindra Makers Lab. In the process of the LLM creation's first phase, to have gone through so engagingly in terms of data collection, creation and annotation and curation for all Hindi dialects (37) has been insightful and has made us appreciate the language and dialect nuances even more. It connects directly to the point of India being a diverse language speaking country and communication made easier across the languages to connect by bridging the digital divide will be very important – and now with Project Indus, possible too. To the other point of collaborating and creating, with partners. Looking at Project Indus as part of a three body series, where the LLM is the first body, TechM’s partners (Dell and Intel) on whose processors and infra Project Indus was trained and inferenced on (as the second body) and the third body, for the governance guard rails (IBM) present a unique solution which is present today in the Indian(and global) AI Innovation landscape. Sahabat.AI, a sovereign LLM that Tech Mahindra is creating along with its partners Indosat Oredoo Hutchison (IoH) and chip giant Nvidia is a testimony to that. And also to the fact that while Project Indus was largely created to be open source (by Indians for Indians), Sahabat.AI is being created for Indonesia (in Bahasa) as a revenue model. Another significant facet is where the article talks about National AI Strategy, Digital India and National Data Protection Bill. In the process of model building (again, done completely in-house), due care was taken to ensure that bias detection (by creating a model that helps remove biases and building that in Project Indus) was done, data collected was carefully curated and cleaned even before it reached the bias detection model sweep and the LLM does adhere to the mandate, vision and governance that the National AI Strategy and Digital India have outlined. The research backed initiative that has been Project Indus has been a focal point, a tipping point even and the journey in creating the same all through the last 12-15 months has been a learning experience, to enable and solve use cases across the sectors of agriculture, health science, farming and many more. Nikhil Malhotra Nikhil’s article is a very comprehensive one, it is a vision that has been actioned upon, to affect the Indian and global AI innovation landscape, positively. While everyone is talking about AI and its potential to transform businesses, there will be significant job losses in the medium term, leading to chaos. Geoffrey Hinton's article highlights not only the risk of job losses but also the threat of extinction. Uncontrolled development and use of AI could have negative long-term effects, similar to how social media has been used to spread hatred and negativity. Government intervention will be necessary at the right time to manage these risks.
