Back in January, we started working with the Making Impact Matter team to strengthen our Community + Food MEL approach. Phase 1 = a comprehensive review of current qual + quant data and x3 stakeholder focus groups with a range of operational, funding and strategic partners. This found we were delivering substantial benefits to young Londoners, their families, and community partners. However, it has also identified areas where outcomes data could be more robustly defined, captured, and evidenced. Phase 2 = in-person focus groups with young Londoners, development of a new MEL framework and design of new/realistic data collection tools. Phase 3 = begins today, piloting our new tools in the #KitchenSocial hubs and via QR codes on our food recipe kits. And, development of an SROI and Ripple Effect Model (new for us, lots to learn, but feels exciting). I'm happy to be honest, it's not always been easy. Implementing change and improvements isn't. I'm sure Rachael Murray Higgins would agree 🙃 . But, I do believe we are now in a much stronger position to understand/demonstrate our impact, and also see the gaps in our approach. Really interesting conversations among 3rd sector organisations in BANES about #AI and #social impact today at St John's Foundation. Heard concerns around - fundraising and grant-writing around LLMs - whether AI will free up time to do direct service delivery by undertaking admin and if so, how to balance that with the well-being of frontline staff who need downtime (often through mundane admin tasks) after dealing with difficult situations - bias and accuracy if things can be made up! - analysis of needs if that currently isn’t a feature of AI models - and who should be responsible for this anyway? - whether orgs will feel able to share their data to counter the bias and inaccuracy in the models - and what challenges to these present I wrote about some of these in my piece for techSPARK that you can read here https://lnkd.in/eqamg4kZ The ethical, practical, philosophical and human dimensions of this debate are multi-layered and multi-dimensional. Such an achievement from The Advocacy Project! It's tough to maintain quality services in this environment but we've managed to do it and we have the Quality Performance Mark to show for it. Super proud of the team for everything they do to support vulnerable people in London. So few people know about their right to advocacy when sectioned or lacking capacity after a capacity assessment. This work helps people speak up for their needs, navigate complex systems and protect people from abuse, confusion, loneliness, overwhelm.... I could go on. A new report from the UK makes a compelling case for a paradigm shift towards preventative measures – a strategy that improves lives AND strengthens the economy. The report estimates that a 20% reduction across the six disease categories that contribute most to working-age adults leaving employment due to ill health would increase GDP by nearly 1% by 2035. To all event fundraisers in the EEA who are concerned right now about the withdrawal of Meta fundraising tools I urge you to take a moment, reflect and be proud of what you have achieved to date. You have maximised the potential of a platform and raised hundreds of millions of euros that have transformed and saved lives. 🙌 Facebook is a channel, a platform, an enabler, and a dam good one at that, but it’s not the only way. Fundraising isn’t easy but fundraisers are resilient and determined people who know how to find another way. Facebook Challenges were never about Facebook, they are about connecting with people who share beliefs and passion for helping others and making the world we live in a better place. At their core Remote Challenges are classic peer to peer campaign fundraising which has been around long before Meta and will be around long after it too. Today is not the end, it’s just a bump in the road and a change of direction.

There is an emergency on our streets with the deaths of people sleeping rough up by 42% in one year vs 2022 across the UK. #thoughtfulthursday I wanted to highlight the report released by The Museum of Homelessness found here: - https://lnkd.in/drjxtFkh Sadly the actual number of deaths is likely to be higher but these figures are high enough. Other facts highlighted in the report state: - 20% more young adults experiencing homelessness completed suicide - People experiencing homelessness are at least 3 times more likely to be murdered. - The data shows stark regional inequalities in England with people in rural areas dying up to 10 years younger and the North East being highest death rate outside London. Deaths of homeless people at street level increased sharply between 2022 and 2023 Deaths by accommodation status: - +42.2% change on 2022 Street homeless - +28.2 Supported accommodation - +23.1 Temporary accommodation - +13.3 Emergency accommodation - +1.4 Other - -6.1 Unknown - -23.7 Rough sleepers - -35.6 B&B or hotel The figures above are scary and show the real state of what is happening on the streets and in other forms of homelessness. People still say to me 'oh people choose to live on the street'. It is one of the most annoying statements or words right up there when most people say 'literally'!
