IMPORTANAT LEGISLATION CHANGE UK On October 26th, 2024, The Worker Protection (Amendment of Equality Act 2010) Act 2023 will come into force. This Act places a legal duty on employers to take reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace. This includes harassment & bullying against or by colleagues, & third-parties. Please reach out to your Employer to advise on this amendment, please remember policy should define following:               PURPOSE :Policy should ensure that all colleagues understand Definitions of -           Harassment, bullying, victimisation and third-party harassment -           Ensure all managers Know about their duty of care to their employees under Worker Protection (Amendment of Equality Act 2010) Act 2023. -            Outline process for managers to follow when an incident of harassment or bullying has been reported. -           Provide a template to assess risk to identify measures that support prevention of harassment & bullying, to ensure safe worker environments. -           Provide resources to support victims of harassment & bullying & further information to support continued awareness. Policy Should outline methods & measures for prevention of above acts: Please remember Under the Worker Protection (Amendment of Equality Act 2010) Act 2023 employers must be able to show reasonable steps taken to prevent harassment, sexual harassment and bullying in the workplace. Your employer is duty bound to provide:               -             Detailed policy with the reporting procedures & required resources               -             Carry out relevant Risk Assessment on regular basis               -             Provide a template of Risk Assessment & self-Assessment -             Adequate & relevant Training to you and all staff including managers & leadership -             Remember Training on this subject is now a statutory compliance -             Assist you in Reporting Harassment, Bullying, Victimisation or Third-party Harassment -             Investigate Complaints in a timely & confidential manner. -             Protect your dignity rights & your identity as required -             Take necessary steps to manage any ongoing relationship between you & person accused during investigation. -             Inform you about the outcome of investigations -             Provide you with adequate Protection & Support -             Provide you Confidential support/counselling via employee assistance program (as applicable) Support & guidance can also be obtained from following external services, depending on your location: a) The Equality Advisory and Support Service (https://lnkd.in/eeUpVqbp). b) Protect (www.protect-advice.org.uk). c) Victim support (www.victimsupport.org.uk). d) Rights of women (England and Wales) (www.rightsofwomen.org.uk) e) Scottish Women's Rights Centre (Scotland) (https://lnkd.in/egh5Qwi6). #EDI #HR #Employement Law #Equality

Mental Heath Awareness Week I’ve always been a ‘sharer’ and let’s face it, the Job I do, everyone shares everything with me so you would think talking about my own mental health would come easily to me. Maybe ….with my friends & family - but popping it all over linked in? Maybe not so much…. So because I think it isn’t & shouldn’t be a taboo subject and because it’s good to share your story to help others and because it’s mental health awareness week - I’m going to be brave. My mental health declined significantly during covid. Having severe panic attacks, palpitations & seriously debilitating bouts of anxiety which were so psychologically & psychically impactful I became some kind of neurotic over worker - working 19 hour days thinking I needed to be everything to everyone. Doing nothing well. Then my dad died (2021). Then I could not get out of crisis mode. Felt like I had to be ‘perfect’ & constantly prove myself. I was diagnosed with ‘high functioning’ anxiety in 2022 but just really ignored the damage I was doing to my mind & body. 2022 was a very hard year for me - for various different reasons. I made career decisions & choices that I thought were right (they weren’t) but learnt so much about what WAS right. (And met some amazing people) I had a serious health issue (now all resolved) and I eventually in June 2023 I found the right place for me at work, got some proper help & support, went on a journey to physical health & got a dog! Fast forward to today. I’m happy, healthy, fitter emotionally, mentally & physically more than I’ve ever been. Life throws us multiple curveballs. I thought I was resilient and I could ‘cope’ but it transpires no one is an island & we all need help. Moving outside in the woods gives me a sense of peace & calm. Gives me energy for the day & refocuses me on what’s important. Whatever your story - please find a way to ask for help - and take it. Global Lessons in Recruitment & Retention. That's the topic of this morning's talk at the wonderful Galadari Colombo hotel. Kick off is at 13:00 and we're expecting a full house, it's going to be great. The issues of #recruitment and #retention are, of course, experienced by companies all over the world. But the challenges facing organisations in #srilanka are unique in many ways. #Braindrain is a real challenge here given the economic, political and social challenges experienced of recent years. Lack of #opportunities, a weak currency, challenges with #employment policies, globalisation, inflation....all being felt by the workforce and tempting them to move away and seek better lives elsewhere. Companies are struggling not only to #hire but also to #retain #talent and today, we'll be talking about the lessons learned around the world to tackle these issues. The plus side - as there always is one - is that solutions are to hand. For all those interested in leaving the country, there are also those (incredibly talented) who want to stay, contribute, invest in their homeland. Engaging them, activating them, empowering them is one way in approach to overcoming some of the challenges faced - we'll be delving into details later this afternoon.
