Every day's a school day. I was fortunate to be invited to spend the afternoon at Dell Technologies Forum "AI Edition" last week. Whilst all the speakers and panelists were excellent and covered important and entertaining themes, it was John Roese who really landed the most powerful points for me. After describing how he and his team had tackled AI transformation on a sub set of the hundreds of use cases in Dell's business, he went on the summarise five requisites for a successful AI factory within an enterprise. I only wish I had written them down, assuming I could catch them later in a video if I went hunting for it. Fortunately the tenacious marketing team at Dell landed the video my inbox today, Otter.ai watched it whilst I worked on some personas and hey presto, here's the five. 1. A standardised, rule-based chatbot 2. A coding assistant 3. A content engine 4. An agentic framework(for distributed AI processing) 5. A fine-tuning infrastructure Roese explained that by implementing these five capabilities, organisations can deploy and scale various AI projects more efficiently, rather than building bespoke solutions for each use case. He didn't suggest that it's been easy to implement Dell's AI factory; it did sound possible and pragmatic. In collaboration with Microsoft, Kyndryl’s latest Global Sustainability Barometer dives into the crucial role technology plays in bridging the gap between sustainability ambitions and real action. This report sheds light on how companies are stepping up, with 38% increasing their sustainability efforts since last year, while 55% view AI as a potential game-changer for achieving these goals. We’ve just launched our latest findings from our Enterprise Horizons 2024 report, in collaboration with IDC – specifically looking at where global businesses are on their AI journey and what the main challenges are that are holding them back. The research has found that, while on the whole organizations are positive about the potential enhancements AI tools can bring them, a difficulty in retaining or attracting key AI, data, automation and networking skills are preventing them from rolling-out their AI plans in full. Interestingly, senior technology leaders are also citing network performance as a significant barrier to scaling AI projects successfully within their businesses. This is a critical question that many leaders and organizations are going to have to grapple with in the coming months and years. As expected, growth and investment is the underlying message behind the UK Government’s Autumn Budget. When we talk about economic growth, we cannot leave technology out of the equation. We are at an interesting point in time for the UK, where business leaders recognise the great potential of technology as a growth driver leading to impactful business transformation.     AI is, and will increasingly be, one of the biggest technological drivers behind economic growth in the UK. In fact, recent research from ServiceNow, has found that while in the UK, AI-powered business transformation is in its early days, British businesses are among Europe’s leaders when it comes to AI optimism and maturity, with 85% of those planning to increase investment in AI in the next year. It is clear that appetite for AI continues to grow- from manufacturing to healthcare, and education. Furthermore, with the government setting a 2% productivity savings target for government departments, AI has the potential to play a significant role here, not only by boosting productivity, but also driving innovation, reducing operational costs, as well as creating new job opportunities.     To remain competitive as a country, we must not forget to also invest in education, upskilling initiatives, and partnerships between the public and private sectors, fostering AI innovation to drive transformative change for all. https://lnkd.in/dgTqGKqW #AI #UKBudget

Great insights from Noelle Walsh, CVP of Cloud Operations and Innovation at Microsoft, at the Datacloud Global Congress 2024. Microsoft is rapidly expanding its cloud and AI infrastructure globally, including in Japan, Australia, Canada, the UK, Germany, and Spain. Alongside this, they’re enhancing AI skilling programs worldwide. Noelle emphasized that while data centers are crucial for AI, their energy consumption raises environmental concerns. Microsoft aims to be carbon-negative by 2030, focusing on renewable energy and sustainable tech. Despite increased water usage from AI, Microsoft is implementing solutions like loop chillers and water replenishment initiatives. Noelle's key message: societal progress and innovation should not come at the planet's expense. Microsoft is committed to achieving growth sustainably, using green energy and recyclable materials, and prioritizing safety and reliability in their operations. #ai #sustainability
