Following a significant ransomware attack that disrupted healthcare services across London, Martin emphasized the need for the NHS to update its outdated IT systems. Despite NHS England investing £338 million in cybersecurity over the past seven years, Martin warned that more immediate action is needed. A British Medical Association report highlighted that doctors waste 13.5 million hours annually due to these outdated systems. The attack on Synnovis, affecting major hospitals, underscores the pressing need for improved cybersecurity. I don’t like using the word ‘easy’, but that’s what you’re making yourself if you don’t patch or you use passwords like ‘Password123’: an easy target. You’re leaving the door wide open to threat actors. This also underlines the importance of prevention and detection. A key bill highlighted by King Charles III during last week's opening of UK parliament address was the planned introduction of more stringent cyber security and operational resilience legislation under a new Labour government. The 'fundamental mission' is to ensure that all businesses and organisations in the UK that manage sensitive personal data minimise risk of customer/patient data breaches.   Richard Wainwright, UK&I Field CTO Veritas Technologies LLC underlined that 'the loss of credentials to threat actors are the main problem, and legislation to compensate against this should be the main concern.
