We took the wraps off Azure Local with disconnected operations today at Microsoft Ignite. This solution will enable customers with regulations and constraints, requiring local control, to deploy and manage Azure Local instances as well as VM and AKS workloads without a connection to an Azure region. Our success in getting to this announcement and our upcoming Public Preview is due to the fantastic support and collaboration across Azure and Microsoft. Powered by custom-built AMD EPYC™ 9V64H processors only available in Azure, Azure HBv5 is designed for highly parallel, computationally intensive workloads that require massive amounts of memory bandwidth. Azure HBv5 will deliver up to 8x higher memory bandwidth compared to the latest bare-metal and Cloud alternatives, almost 20x more than Azure HBv3 and Azure HBv2, and up to 35x more than a 4–5-year-old HPC server approaching the end of its hardware lifecycle. 💭 This week one of CRNs Top 100 UK VAR's approached me asking about the Google Cloud (specifically GCP) partner program and it got me thinking (and researching)... Should I be shocked to conclude that GCP is hardly offered as an option? That multi-cloud means AWS and Azure to most. Ingram Micro and Google are working hard to change the story. One of the many benefits of AVS is that if you know VMWare, you already know a lot about AVS, including how to migrate VMs from your current VMWare platform to another (here AVS). **New AI Assisted Safety Evaluations** A lot of this post covers existing or renamed features, but the new AI Assisted Safety Evaluations feature is new, and looks great. Some of this is similar to the PromptBench project that was released back in December, but which was in a very early state at the time. This new feature also adds some nice tooling to compare safety scores for two prompts side-by-side, as jailbreak tests evolve. These capabilities are going to become huge for building trust, since most black box protection features remain poorly adopted in an enforced mode. You need to be able to inspect behaviours before you can turn them over to Microsoft to let them control what can, and cannot be done. In any case, this is really good to see.
