What’s the JavaScript market like?? Is a question asked on pretty much every call I have at the moment. ✅ The JavaScript market is slowly bouncing back. We’ve seen an increase in job flow, also in direct adverts from both agency and client side which is great ( mostly on perm ). An uptick in perm roles is usually a good indicator of a strong market and contract will soon be to follow. Candidates are getting involved in multiple processes at once. ✅ Time to hire still seems slow. Interviews are taking longer and feedback is delayed. Clients are saying they are wanting to hire but wont move promptly on signing things off/starting the processes or making offers. ✅ There are more experienced candidates on the market. A lot of contracts weren’t extended so there are more people looking. ✅ Seasoned contractors are more open to taking an interesting perm role. In short, things are slowly but surely improving. To any freelance Vlocity Developers or Architects looking to make their profile more accessible to find on LinkedIn 😎 I've recently noticed that for a large number of candidates who specialize in Vlocity, it's not always clear the extent to which some of your skills in SFI cover... which means you could be losing out on potential opportunities that are out there! Here are some detailed tips to make your profile more visible to hiring managers and recruiters: 📍 Separate yourself from using traditional titles e.g. "Salesforce Developer" OR "Salesforce Architect". Instead, outline yourself as a "Salesforce Vlocity Developer" or "Salesforce Vlocity Architect" in your job title! (this is a lot more common than you might think!) 📍 Highlight specific Vlocity projects, detailing the technologies used (e.g. Raptors, Cards etc), industries worked in (CommsCloud, Health Cloud) etc. - the more keywords you use the easier it is for us to find you! 📍 If you're a CEO or founder of your own company, and have it outlined on your LinkedIn, great! Try to also include in your experience a strong summary that highlights your experience in Vlocity as well as the service you can provide as a freelancer! Laravel or Symfony? Does it really matter? Had an interesting reaction to a recent Senior PHP Developer role I've been recruiting for the last week. Fully Remote? Check. Good Salary & Benefits package? Check. Greenfield projects in a sector people care about? Check! However I've had a number of PHP Developers say to me today they're not interested as the business purely because they as they would be using Symfony as opposed to Laravel. I get it, Laravel is the more widely used framework. But they're transferable skills, surely what really pique an engineers interest is the technical challenge of the projects and the compensation/work-life balance on hand. Any thoughts on why switching to Symfony is a concern?

Demand for Intermediate-level Software Developers is decreasing, resulting in salary levels on offer declining. For the time being it appears that the days of intermediate developers securing 15% - 20% pay increases when moving jobs are over.   Current advertised salaries for software developers in the UK (3 months to June 2024) are down to 2019 levels.   Is this trend mirrored elsewhere in the world? What are the causes for this?

What is it with job applications at the moment? 24 hours ago I posted a react developer role right before heading out for the rest of the day and I've come back this morning to 254 applicants, 57 connection requests and 42 linked in messages. Still working through them but at first glance the large majority aren't remotely suitable for various reasons including: 👉 No mention of React on the CV 👉 Not based in the right country 👉 Never worked in software or IT 👉 Not eligible to work in the UK There has to be a better way for everyone involved? It's incredibly time consuming screening applicants and filtering that list and good candidates get frustrated that they never hear back from recruiters and got lost in the shuffle. I have job board and linked in filters for out of country applicants and legal right to work in the UK + 4 pre-screening questions for react development experience but they don't seem to work. Does anyone have any ideas of better ways for this to work? Any new tools out there that can manage this? RIG..... Role Industry Geography As a recruiter, if you don't take the time and pride in learning your market inside and out then you will fail as a #recruiter. Client: "Our Lead Contract QA has just handed in his notice" Method Consultant: "Who is it" Client: "XXXX, used to work for XXXX" Method Consultant: "I know his old manager, available immediately, same tech stack and can start on Monday" Client: "Set a call up" 6 hours later, the clients issue is resolved, contracts signed, SDS complete and a very happy Jack Stockman. If your current company is not RIG focussed, or a similar process then you are set up to fail. Developers, don't get bullied! Don't comprise significantly!! It's not worth it. I have had a number of conversations recently where developers have stayed with companies for short periods of time for different reasons. 1 short stint at a business can be explained so long as the rest of your CV supports it. However, don't be bullied or blinded by shiny things to compromise on your original search. The grass isn't always greener and you will be looking to move before you are settled in. - Don't move for big money at the cost of enjoyment or happiness - Don't take that promotion to be a senior too early in your career - Don't accept a role that is outside your core responsibilities if you don't feel comfortable -Don't change technologies to secure employment if you don't plan too - Don't jeopardise your working style (Hybrid, remote, flexible hours) - Don't become a people manager if you want to remain an IC It's tough at the moment but staying true to who you are will shine through and help you achieve your long-term goals. Too many short roles will harm your reputation and then blaming every company for them doesn't look great. Have a good day everyone!
