Kent County Council is looking for a service provider to manage a significant #highways term maintenance contract valued at up to £2 billion. The contract, initially set for 14 years, offers the possibility of extension for an additional 7 years, totaling 21 years. The Council's existing contract with Amey Highways Ltd, active since 2011 and valued between £40m and £50m annually, is set to expire in April 2026. The decision to extend the contract was influenced by the impact of COVID-19, market volatility, and factors like demand, inflation, and raw material availability. Key services under this contract include winter service provision, #drainage #maintenance, #structuresmaintenance, #patching, #resurfacing services, #surface treatments, emergency response, and highway schemes delivery. The draft scope, contract, and Invitation to Tender for this new agreement will be released shortly after the Selection Questionnaire. The Council is open to the Service Provider offering the fleet or exploring options to purchase or lease the gritting fleet and acquiring gritting salt directly. We're in for 6 weeks of pithy slogans around stability, time for change, rebuilding and so on. What might it mean for #buildingcontrol? We've had the biggest period of change in the industry in the last year. With the backdrop about the political explanations behind Grenfell, the shortages in the industry, the lack of investment over the past decade... I can't help but think that whoever is at the helm come July really look at steadying the industry. There's no doubt that the continued investment in updating cladding and the wider housing shortages will be on the political agenda. I really hope there's some consideration for an industry that's been chronically skills short throughout the last administration. But I hope any changes are well planned and executed. Great Places Housing Group has announced successful bidders for our latest four-year Innovation Chain North (ICN) framework of contractors and consultants. Massive congratulations to the successful companies who can be found at - https://lnkd.in/ep2pNVfa The framework has been designed to support delivery of new homes across the north of England, not only to support our affordable development programme but also other Housing Associations and Local Authorities operating across the north of England. The framework renewal saw a 23 per cent increase in bidders seeking to deliver works and services; 206 companies applied to supply the framework. The majority of bidders applied for multiple lots, and in total 802 bids were evaluated across the 37 lots. New lots for the renewed framework include Apartment Construction, Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) Engineering and Retrofit Consultants. In total 103 suppliers – 34 Contractors and 69 Consultants – were successful. The successful organisations were selected based on their technical competence, price, and their commitment to social value. The new £1.5 billion framework will run until June 2028. Social value continues to be a key priority for the latest framework with pledges from successful firms including apprenticeships, work experience opportunities and volunteering hours. 🛤 Project 13 model to ‘radically transform’ Network Rail £1.4bn Southern maintenance framework 🛤 #NetworkRail has appointed 15 suppliers to its £1.4bn #Southern Region minor works, #buildings and #civils partnership #framework, utilising a new model described as a first for the #rail sector. The suppliers will provide planned and reactive maintenance across Network Rail's Southern Region utilising an innovative #collaborative #ecosystem. The Southern Integrated Delivery (#SID) alliance, featuring the likes of #AtkinsRéalis and #VolkerFitzpatrick, has appointed the suppliers under an innovative 10-year partnership framework to deliver Buildings & Civils works for its Works Delivery team across the Southern region in Control Period 7 (CP7) from 2024 to 2029 and Control Period 8 (CP8) from 2029 to 2034. The new Southern Renewals Enterprise (SRE) model was introduced across Network Rail’s Southern region in April 2024 to deliver the £9bn renewals portfolio between 2024 and 2034. A similar model has been employed in its Eastern Region for £3.5bn of works in CP7. Described as a first for the railway industry, SRE follows the Institution of Civil Engineers’ Project 13 model – designed to deliver infrastructure projects in a collaborative way, which allows long term planning and has proven to deliver better outcomes for customers. Network Rail said CP7 brings the opportunity to deliver capital works in new ways; the operator added that it has “taken the opportunity to build upon the lessons of other major programmes and portfolios to drive greater value and efficiency into project delivery”. The SRE model will be made up of three entities: The Capable Owner (Network Rail) will focus on owning, defining and appropriately assuring the Southern renewals portfolio delivery. Southern Integrated Delivery (SID) will be empowered to plan, specify, assemble and handback the full Southern renewals portfolio. Partners will pool their expertise and resources across the entire regional renewal’s portfolio, coordinating and delivering five interlinked tranches of work: Building and civils – VolkerFitzpatrick Ltd Electrification and plant – Octavius Infrastructure Signalling– AtkinsRéalis Track – VolkerRail Minor works - Network Rail An ecosystem of the best-in-class constructors and specialist partners, assembled and managed by SID, for the overall benefit of SRE’s outcomes. https://lnkd.in/eQ-7xUpg

Nexus Infrastructure plc has acquired Coleman Construction Group (a brand including Coleman Construction & Utilities Ltd and Coleman Rail) for £5.4 million. The company, listed on the Aim stock market, is based in East Sussex and is known for its work in civil engineering. This purchase allows Nexus, which also owns the concrete contractor The Tamdown Group, to expand into important areas like water, rail, highways, and marine services. Coleman, founded in 2000 by Barry Coleman, had a revenue of £8.3 million last year. Charles Sweeney, the CEO of Nexus, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, highlighting it as a chance to grow and diversify into essential parts of UK infrastructure. He noted that this move helps the company secure long-term opportunities that are less affected by short-term economic changes. The solid reputation and skills of Coleman in various sectors strengthen Nexus’s overall business, and the team from Coleman will be welcomed into the Nexus family. In a recent update, Nexus announced that its revenue grew by 23% to £52 million in the year ending in September. Sweeney underscored that diversification is key to Nexus's strategy, with the Coleman acquisition providing new growth chances beyond residential construction.
