What are the best time management strategies for driving results in your career development?
Decide what sacrifices you are willing to make. This is probably the most important point. I never have met any successfully business leader who, if they are honest will tell you that at times they have sacrificed family, health holidays, etc to achieve great things. It’s hard being an entrepreneur and a leader. Be honest with yourself before you start. Are you willing to work 100 hour weeks, take no holiday, miss the kids story time etc. If the answer is no, then choose another option. There is no such thing as work life balance, it’s a misnomer!

There is a lot of external help. Much of it utter nonsense like unconscious bias training that is proven to have zero long term impact. That’s said there are plenty of organisations that do offer excellent training and material to help.

What are some effective strategies for developing a diverse and inclusive team?
Goals are very controversial if they become targets. Too many times have I seen good intentions ruined by inappropriately set goals and targets. Financial services businesses in particular are very target driven and getting this wrong may lead to very poor behaviour. What you are really striving for is cultural change not hitting a target. That comes from the top, every action, every day. Stamping out the poor behaviours and quickly has the fastest impact on culture change.

What are some effective strategies for developing a diverse and inclusive team?
This is easier said than done and needs careful consideration. Asking the office misogynist to lead the charge when his behaviour is an open secret is not good. Think carefully about how you will gather the data, how do people know their responses are held safely and securely. Be prepared for shock, surprise. Naturally prejudice will lead leaders to want to believe their organisations are not racist m, homophobic etc. Sadly these behaviours are seen in most. Be prepared to take action, that’s what your staff will expect otherwise it will fail.
