There are some things you shouldn’t do while networking with other business owners…. Hopefully, I did it the right way yesterday, at the first anniversary of Severalls Connect which met at Mimosa Restaurant in Colchester. Among the attendees were Gemma Hart, Sarah Osborne, Patrick Maynard, Vishal Narbheram, Tanya Oakley, Simon Crow, Liz Connelly, Lucy Dutton, Kyle McGill and Jill Purcell, who gave a great talk about MSUK. If you are new to business or haven’t been networking for a while, meeting a bunch of entrepreneurs in person for the first time can be overwhelming. It’s easy to feel nervous and go about it the wrong way, so I’ve compiled a list of dos and don’ts to help you. Networking in person can be fun and a fruitful experience when approached with the right mindset. DOs Tips to ensure you make the most of your networking: 👍Be authentic 👍Listen actively 👍Prepare your elevator pitch 👍Have your business cards ready 👍Follow up 👍Be gracious. By embracing these principles, you'll not only build a robust network but also foster relationships that can support your personal and professional growth. Try not to make mistakes so you are remembered for the wrong reasons. Avoid these pitfalls: 👉 Don’t be pushy 👉 Don’t interrupt 👉 Avoid being negative 👉 Don’t monopolise the conversation 👉 Avoid over drinking or over eating 👉 Don’t forget to follow up 👉 Don’t be a name dropper. By avoiding these common networking mistakes, you'll be more likely to make a positive impression and build meaningful, lasting connections.
