🚉 Enhance the Railway Food Delivery Experience 🚉 Recently, I ordered food through the IRCTC’s food delivery app while traveling by train. Though the app interface and options are great, there's a significant issue: the delivery timing is based solely on the train's scheduled arrival, not the actual running status. As we all know, train delays are common, and relying only on predefined timings means that by the time the food is ready, the train may not even have reached the station. This leads to missed deliveries and disappointed customers. 🍱❌ 🛠️ A Better Approach: Instead of using the scheduled timings, why not integrate the real-time running status of trains? This will: Ensure the food is delivered fresh and on time, aligning with the actual arrival of the train. Improve customer satisfaction by reducing missed deliveries. Streamline operations for vendors, minimizing wasted orders. It’s a small change, but it could make a huge difference in the user experience. Ans- Just general answer :- Algorithms used - will see track the behaviour of person- his likes, shares, watch history, search history, duration, subscriptions etc + other info like location, language --->process this data --->ML algo ie self learning algos --> Various models --> collaborative learning, content-based filtering, and deep learning models like neural networks. Now explaining these models in general :- Collaborative Filtering: This method recommends content based on similarities between users. If users with similar behavior to yours liked certain content, you might also like it. Content-Based Filtering: This method recommends content based on the characteristics of the items themselves. It looks at the features of the content you have interacted with and finds similar items. So complex data analysis + ML algo

Never become that engineer "who doesn't know how the code that is working, but it is working, so let's not touch it". In the past I worked on many projects where my seniors asked me not to touch a block which contains the core logic and changing it might have repercussions. I also feared and never touched it. over the period I realised that's not how you solve a problem, if the module contains core logic that should be easily understandable and modifiable. What is 42 ? I often ask this question to myself. Turns out, it is the number of months I have spent at Openhouse! ;) I am a different person today, then the one who had joined openhouse 3.5 yrs back. I want to extend my gratitude to Akshay Rampuria and Shruti Sekhsaria who have believed in me, challenged me, and helped me grow. I have also learnt a lot and consider myself lucky to have worked with so many awesome people in the engineering - product - design team (current and past). I am taking a short break till I find my next adventure. In this time I will be writing a fiction book, learning about lots of new things, coding some, and exploring what problems are different people solving today. Would love to chat about ideas / interesting opportunities. Specially in the following areas: 1. AI 2. Blockchain 3. UN SDGs (ed, health, social impact, inclusion, environment, etc) 4. #Paytm employees have taken to the Ministry of Labour and Employment after their unfair layoff without any proper severance package. We all have been reading the brutal layoffs news for the past 2 years; one where the CEO just shows up on the Zoom call to fire 80% of the company or where security guards show up after a conference and employees are escorted. In some cases, they find a legal loophole by forcing you to admit that there was a performance issue and putting you in PIP and thereby crushing your self-confidence and then saving some money by not paying their dues after firing you. There are companies that treat their employees like trash and expect the general public to buy the narrative of "We are a family". If an employee absconds a company then it is frowned upon in the industry, the companies scare you with a bad relieving letter or failed background checks in the next company and yet these same companies face no consequences when they happily ruin the financial and mental status of their so-called "family members". With privatisation on the rise it is high time that we all voice for better labour laws in #India so that people can work peacefully. Tesla has #laidoff 10% of it's total workforce constituting a sum of 14000 Employees. #scalar has #laidoff 150 members from their marketing and sales. #byju's has #laidoff around 500 people from tuition center business #apple has #laidoff around 600 members from their car and smart screen business. Despite #layoffs are continuing , I'm feeling it is reducing in 2024. Except #tesla rest of the above #layoffs are not very significant in terms of numbers. Importance of goals for your team There is an Infinite Monkey Theorem, which says that If you put a thousand monkeys in a room with thousand typewriters and give them infinite amount of time, that eventually they would write all the works of Shakespeare. Similarly, if you are creating a team and not giving them any goals and hoping that somehow all of the pieces just magically form together to get your business going in a big direction, a new direction, you're basically doing that. I’ve worked on a few personal projects before, and working solo is usually smooth. But now, collaborating in a team has me thinking, "Ye kya kiya bhai ! ese to nhi bola tha 🥹." 😅 Working with Abhinav Dhiman has been a completely new experience. The best part? Realizing that while Git and GitHub seem easy in theory, using them effectively as a team takes practice. It definitely smooths things out, but not without some initial hiccups. Designing the prototype architecture felt simpler than writing the actual code, but we’re making progress. We hit a few bumps, but now we’re on track to solving the problem by building a portal—a space where you’ll find valuable resources, teammates, buddies, and much more. Famous SDE, EM behavioural question, "how did you work with cross-functional teams" is not about working. It's also not about the tools you use to work together. It is actually about handling vested interests. Why? Before that, lets first understand what is a cross-functional team. These are teams made of people from different functional expertise. For example, Product Manager, Developers, QA, UX, all in one team to solve a business problem. 3-4 developers + 1-2 PM + 2 QA + 1-2 UX Although these individuals are part of this team, but their managers are not same (in most of the cases). Meaning they are still reporting to their managers of their specific functional team. This is where challenges start to show. Each of these have their vested interests. Dev :- Use the latest and shiniest tech QA :- Make the entire product release a bug PM :- Keep squeezing in more and more features UX :- Become the most frustrated user of the product Shouldn't this lead to a better product? No, because while the team is cross-functional, they are only focused on their specific functions, instead of the specific problem because of which they all came together. Cherry on top is their managers are not same. So, how do you handle this situation at work and answer it in interviews. [1] If anyone deviates from original business problem due to their "best functional knowledge", bring them back by going back to business problem. [2] Communicate like you are talking to a 5 year old. Most of the problems start because we assume communication already happened and everyone is aware of the decisions. [3] Keep communication in written, you don't want to hear later, "oh, I meant that..." [4] Give respect to get respect. Escalate about those who keep disrespecting others. [5] If people disagree, understand where they are coming from. Try giving reasoning behind your stand with data. [6] After disagreement if the final decision in not in your favor, don't take it personally. [7] And finally, talk confidently, explain logically. Projects don't fail due to technology, they fail due to people. It gets worse, when people have vested interests with different reporting. If organisations wouldn't have people problem, then many of you and I won't be having the job we have today (we wouldn't need so many people at workforce). That's why behavioural interview are not hypothetical. They extract the best and worst of you from your own stories and serve it in a platter to interviewer. It seems in general we Indians, have lost the idea of work life balance in corporate, especially past the pandemic when boundary between office and home blurred. Some of this can also be attributed to the inability to push back the first time you are asked to stretch for those artificial urgencies just because someone else messed up in their planning or it wasn’t even a genuine ask in the first place. To loose out your well being in the name of work/hustle/mission shouldn’t be a norm anymore. Let alone those apthetic leaders and their irresponsible statements because they wouldn’t have treated you as just numbers if they had more compassion for their workforce and citizens At the end, it’s on us to say no the next time and redefine those lost boundaries. Take stand for yourself and your team. PS: If my manager or my ex-managers is reading this, it’s intended for the entire community and not just individual team/organisation 😄
