Economic modelling indicates that a 10 GW scale Energy Hub in Scotland producing green hydrogen from floating offshore wind could produce hydrogen for £3.90/kg. The first two UK blue #hydrogen projects are poised to take final investment decisions later this year, but Norwegian oil and gas company Equinor has pushed back a target investment decision date for a third leading project amid government funding uncertainty that has left Humber decarbonisation projects "stranded." My story for S&P Global Commodity Insights here: Equinor has pushed back a target final investment decision date for its 600-MW H2H Saltend blue hydrogen plant in the UK to around 2027 after failing to be selected under the government's Track 1 carbon capture, use and storage cluster sequencing program in 2023. Commenting on #GBEnergy in the Financial Times. The announcement of a partnership between The Crown Estate and GB Energy is good news for the future of #renewables in the UK. We are particularly encouraged by the commitment to reform the policy framework to reduce the time it takes to bring offshore wind projects to fruition, as this is something UKSIF and our members have been calling for for some time. Cutting project timelines is crucial to get investment flowing into UK renewables again, after many investors have been historically put off the UK because of unworkably long project wait-times, effectively starving the UK of investment.   The decision to have the public sector take on additional early development work is a positive move that will reduce risk for developers and attract greater private investment. One barrier this will not solve is the current inadequacy of our #gridconnections, which we know remains a major barrier to investment. UKSIF stands ready to support the implementation of these reforms and to work with government, industry, and investors to ensure the UK becomes a global leader in offshore wind. https://lnkd.in/e-n4-wUS

Carbon Capture - Scotland left out again! Another snub by a disrespectful, divisive, short-sighted London government. Starmer announced the funding for CCS projects in Merseyside and Cleveland, but nothing has been promised for the Acorn project in Buchan, leaving its future uncertain. The funding announced today has been exclusively allocated to so-called Track 1 carbon capture projects, leaving projects like Acorn, classified as Track 2, to await a possible future funding round which may or may not take place. The Acorn project has been promised British Government funding for a decade, but it has failed to materialise and now the Buchan project has been passed over a third time. .... The answer? 📢 The CCSA welcomes The Scottish Government’s Green Industrial Strategy, which had been published yesterday.   We are encouraged that CCUS and hydrogen production are both identified as key areas for development. CCUS holds immense potential for Scotland, offering economic growth by utilising Scotland’s skilled workforce, existing infrastructure and access to CO₂ storage to accelerate industrial decarbonisation efforts.   🛠 At present, the CCUS sector is projected to deliver up to 70,000 new highly skilled jobs and retain approximately 77,000 existing jobs in critical industries like cement, chemicals and other strategically manufacturing sectors. With growing geopolitical unrest, and headwinds in renewables, future UK energy policy should recognise the vital role that oil and gas will continue to play. DESNZ announced a budget of £1.5bn for Allocation Round 6 (AR6) of the Contracts for Difference scheme (CfD). The increase means the AR6 budget is 7 times higher than that of Allocation Round 5 (AR5).
