Providing support to elderly is a personal interest to me. . I recognise how lonely it can be particularly among older spousal caregivers and how this affects well-being and health. The emotional toll of caregiving, especially for partners with dementia, can lead to social isolation and uncertainty. Targeted interventions are crucial to support caregivers and alleviate the burden they face. Further research is needed to understand differences among caregiver groups and develop effective strategies. Recognizing the impact of caregiving on mental health is essential in providing the necessary support for those caring for their partners. #mentalhealth #wellbeing #loneliness #caregiving #socialdevelopment #community

What support do sustainability professionals want ❓ These are the results from a survey we conducted with 92 sustainability professionals asking what support they would like in their roles. Almost 50% wanted to go on a group coaching programme with other sustainability professionals. Others desired more support in-house, external support through a coach or therapist and safe spaces to talk about the climate crisis. Here are the programmes that I offer for sustainability professionals: 🔘 Coaching programme for sustainability professionals 🔘 I offer a 3 or 6 month 1:1 coaching programme for sustainability professionals to support them to work with any challenges they are facing in their role. If you are struggling with feeling overwhelmed, under-supported and find yourself constantly feeling behind or like you aren’t doing enough —I want to support you in finding more balance and calm; motivation and clarity on what to prioritise; and to feel better about yourself and your impact. I have a few coaching spaces available starting in September. 🔵 Group coaching programme for sustainability professionals🔵 I'm planning a group coaching programme focused on ‘Developing Resilience and Wellbeing’ to help sustainability professionals work through feelings of: - loneliness, - eco-anxiety, - not being or doing enough, and - overwhelm and burnout. Through creating a safe and supportive space for sustainability professionals to share and connect over their experiences, we'll explore different tools and techniques to develop resilience and enhance wellbeing and put these into practice through learning and practicing core coaching skills. This programme aims to support sustainability professionals to live more balanced and fulfilled lives and to thrive in their work and life, to increase their effectiveness in their role and to feel more at ease in their work, as well as connecting with other like-minded professionals and building a sense of community and support. It will be a three-month programme starting later this year and will involve bi-weekly 1.5 hour sessions to support sustainability professionals in becoming more effective, resilient, and happier change-makers. I read this article with interest. I’m Interested in workplace wellness and interventions to improve it. Fundamentally, wellness is down to relationship, both work and personal. When one of these breaks down the other is affected and no amount of yoga or meditation is going to fix it. Take divorce and separation for example. When marital relationships break down, this is going to have a major impact on your ability to perform optimally in the workplace. However, with the right emotional support and practical guidance in place from a trained manager or hr professional, the stress levels can be reduced. Less than 10% of work places have even a basic clause about family breakdown in their HR policies. Even fewer have access to professional support and guidance for such occurrences. With almost half of U.K. marriages ending in divorce, you’d think that business owners would have looked for a way to mitigate the effects of divorce. After all it’s costing them £54 billion every year, a cost they haven’t even considered. Today my coaching practice, Kokoro Consultancy, turns 6! It’s still a baby, yet I feel I have been through such a journey … trying to navigate ways of making my work sustainable, helping more and more people, whilst keeping myself healthy and active, and able to be present for my family. I have delivered more than 2500 hours of coaching, dozens of trainings, met hundreds of people from 5 different continents. I had some very high moments and some low too, I haven’t always got it right, but I have learnt so much at the same time. My mission has not changed: helping people to thrive in life and business by bringing back more humanity into the workplace and in everyday life. Kokoro means heart in Japanese,  but also mind, soul, emotions, feelings, mindset. It embraces the whole human experience. The UK's recent warm weather has me re-reading an article in the American Psychological Association's member magazine 'Monitor on Psychology' entitled, "How heat affects the mind". Yes, continuous or extreme exposure to heat causes hyperthermia and 10-28% of those experience persistent brain damage and in less extreme heat existing mental health symptoms are exacerbated. However, of more regular use, lower exposure heat stress also creates aggression in individuals which generates responsive aggression in others - simply put, arguments are more common when people are hot. Intuitively, we know this, but in the workplace this means that conflict is more likely during the summer months. Additionally, exposure to heat stress is linked to a reduction in cognition. So, problem solving and collaboration are more difficult or less productive during the summer months and could even lead to the aforementioned conflict. Like my last post, these are real-world examples where self-awareness, emotional intelligence and adaptability are critical in real life to reduce future organisational issues in the workplace. Simply recognising the risk of warm weather, being more connected to people and then consciously choosing when to have combative or collaborative discussions could make all the difference.
